frankly from my experience of one cycle of applications, i can say tht apply as early as possible.
other thing is sept would bet too late kind of, jus my opinion.. part 2 prep can be done in 3 months.. i mean i strted in like on and off type in jan. still i am almost half way, though i have booked my exam in april...
and dear friend, 84 is not a bad score.. i have interviewed with score of 82 at couple schools. so be confident of yourself coz not many people are getting over 85 these days.. moreover 2011 is the only yr of scores. nxt yr only pass/fail... may be or may be nt test cn get tougher from next yr coz they are changing pattern f questions in 2012, with more thn one correct answers in single question, matchining the series ques etc..
so i would advice you to apply at beginning of the caapid cycle which strts around may.. and give part 2 by june-july..you hv the option to mention in caapid application to state tht u hv planned ur part 2 exam in whatever month..... dnt take it as a burden but remember you are competeting for your postion in world's best dentistry land.... 🙂
stay motivated!!! and yes its just not my thread but CONQUERERS.... trying to help and sail to success!!
good luck

Hello Guys! I like the positivity around here. Well, I just got my result yesterday and I did not pass🙁. My raw score for the first day was not that bad (301 correct answers) but maybe the problem was the 2day which I got 60/100... Anyway, I am ready to start over... Now I will take my test on May. I would love to keep doing this group study here. So I need to know what are you guys studying right now? Latter on I will study what you guys already did.

Good luck all!:luck:

hey friends i have a question about flouride application. i read in the mosbys that tooth erupts after calcification is completed. i read in deck that we can apply the fluoride until 15-16 years.
there was one question that 15 years old female lived in non fluoridated area all of her life and when she moved to the community where the drinking water naturally contain 6ppm of FL. what happen and answer is the fluoride store increases in the bone. it also says that moderate fluorosis wont occur as by 15 all the teeth has undergone enamel calcification except third molar.

so what does that mean? if tooth erupts after calcification and we can apply fluoride until 15-16 years. how?i mean i know the function of Fl.

I think u r confusing systemic administration of F and topical. systemic will be incorporated in developing hard tissues of body! route of administration is F supplements or Community and school water flouridation... this will be of benefit only uptil calcification of tooth is going on ( i.e before eruption) this will make the tooth resistant to caries...when calcificatoin is complete no more flouride incorporates in the structure of tooth afterwards..which is around 15-16 yrs of age..since bone remodelling is a continual process any flouride given systemically will settle in bone through out life.
On the other hand topical flouride on teeth can be applied to erupted teeth only!!!!! so it is carried out beyond 15 -16 yrs of age and this is done to cause remineralization of incipient carious lesions....hope u understand👍

Hi Taha
U have a really good score and you can get admisssiom in any college easily....im not sure whether UIC will make an exception since they only accept citizens n perm residents...It is a wise decision to start working on prt2 since u have plenty of tym till applications start. I feel you are a perfect candidate for interview with 89 score since colleges accept score of 85 and above....so definitely u have a chance!
Also I ll advise you, don't restrict urself and put limitations on urself, we need to be open to opportunities, don't turn away from something that God wants to give you, Trust in Him, He will guide you, and if this is meant to be, no matter how hard moving out of the state seems, it might be the best thing for u and your family....(which may become evident to you some tym in future) .
Look into some nearby colleges and read there websites , get all the information if you focus on a particular one!
Start part 2, with Dental decks and Mosbys....that is what we all are using althogh I have first aid but didnt have a chnace to look into it.
any ways Best of luck with ur future plans.👍:luck:

hi
sure Taha, Im no expert in this application process but might help with a few things I know, first of all look into the scohhls u want to apply to, look into their requirements, n try to complete those,
basically there is too much paperwork that needs to be done, like personal essay takes most of ur tym...I still dont understand what to write and what not to write! Im totally blank on this subj
then there is letter of recommendations from Dean of ur dental school n 2 other professors! n then there r score reports, some colleges want it sent directly from the issuing agency and the rest want it sent in one package along with other stuff..
Recently there is another facility CAAPID, even after sending all documents to CAAPid, universities still ask you to submit original or notarized copies to them as well!) through which you apply to universities, so try to read the info on their website, new application cycle opens in April! look into the dead lines of the colleges u r interested in and send them documents well in advance of the dead line, after submitting CAAPID application!
👍
Best of luck!

Hey part2 guys,

Here I came up with few queries in ortho section.
Please help me out to reach to the correct answer choices..

1) which of the following orthodontic tooth movements is most likely to cause root resorption?
options: a- Translation
b-Extrusion
c- tipping
d- rotation...
Correct ans. is a- translation. but I have a doubt whether is this correct. I feel it should be c/d..
Can anyone explain this?

2) Ideal age of treating malocclusion is
a- 5-10 yrs
b-10-14 yrs
c- after puberty
d-at any age depending on the problem

correct ans is d... should not be it 10-14 yrs, mixed dentition period to treat malocclusion?

3)what is the treatment of choice for a lingually erupted maxillary incisor in a 7 year old with the rest of the occlusion in normal?
a- myofunctional appliance therapy
b- interarch elastic
c-Tongue blade therapy
d- Maxillary appliance applying labial force

Correct ans is D, but for a single tooth crossbite tongue blade therapy should not be used?

Try to solve this...
Thanks.

1. In my opinion rotation or tipping does not involve physically displacing tooth in bone, so the forces applied in tipping or rotating, simply cause, remodeling of bone around it, where as in translation, counteracting forces are applied to move the tooth physically through bone, stress concentrates at the tip and root resorption occurs, also trhrough reaserch,it is evident that translation causes resorption of root!
2. if a pt has retrognathic mandible either developmentally, or has cleft lip and palate, u start treatment early with distraction osteogenesis, or repair of cleft to prevent worsening of condition with growth, so it depends on what kind of problem pt has!
3. tongue blade is a habbit breakiing appliance to stop tongue thrusting and prevents or aids in treatment of open bite / flaring due to tongue thrusting! single tooth cross bite can be treated with a removable appliance, having z spring etc ...no extensive trearment req coz the condition does not relapse becos of normal incisor relationship after treatment!

these r the explantions i could come up with, if anyone knows, scientific info on thes plzz shed some light!🙂

I have joined kaplan QBank for part 2. I thought it would be good but it was disappointing. The questions are very superficial and many repetitions. I will recommend not to waste money on kaplan for part 2.

i found them really helpful they helped me direct my focus on weak areas since im not familiar with this kind of exam, even it helped me to understand the key points in the qs, what to look for in an answer, its not about the q, but the approach to the ans that matters, focus on the explanation not the q.... any ways everyones style of learning is different, and this is just my opinion:xf:

Very well explained Aims.

Hey guys,

here are some queries in Peododontics.

1) toys can be used in child management as a
- bribe - gift - reward - an inducement to good behavior..
the answer is a GIFT, but reward can be marked ...either has same meaning.. what to do in such case? I found reward is more appropriate..

2)The treatment of choice of an Eruption cyst of 2 year old in second molar region..
Should it be OBSERVATION or Excision?
Does it get resolve on its own after eruption of tooth? And if it impairs the eruption, it needs to be excised, am I right? Or in any case it should be excised?..

3) A mandibular lingual holding arch with loops mesial to each molar band in children is used for
- regaining space
- space maintenance only...
Answer says , its regaining but I know that it is used as only space maintenance only?...

4) when natal teeth are present, the most common and preferable approach is to
- extract tooth
- take radiographs and determine the status of adjacent unerupted tooth
- retain the teeth is possible..
Answer says, it's retain the teeth is possible but is not it to extracted due to the chance of aspiration..

5) when communication with the deaf children, the dentist should
- maintain natural conversational pace
- speak very slowly and exaggerate lip movement
Answer is A but I believe it should be B.

6)Following premature loss of a deciduous tooth, space closure
- is more rapid 6 months after the loss of tooth
- occurs more rapidly in the maxillary arch than in the mandibular arch
Answer is B but I think it should be A.

Try to solve this..

Thanks.

I m planning to give nbde part 2 in July or august.. Can somebody advice me what to study and how to study???
Thnx a lot....

ok here goes
1. i think reward too ... go with gut feeling !
2. if eruption cyst hinders eruption, give incision and allow eruption, no excision required, the cyst contents will be relieved and decompression of pressure will lead to eruption.
3. dont know
4. i think u r right about extraction of natal teeth
5.deaf children wont be able to hear u whether u speak slowly, or loudly! so better not make a cartoon of oneself and speak normally, :laugh:coz they will only understand demonstrattion or sign language for which parents may help communicate....( MY OPINION)
6. Y would the tooth be a "gentleman" and wait to drift AFTER 6 months? , they find place to move in & take advantage of the opportunity to the dismay of the dentist!
I hope it helped..🙂👍:luck:

hey does any one hav ASDA released exams J K L etc series plz share, ill appreciate the help

Hi guys
Count me in, I'll be writing part 2 in September most probably !! Done with endodontics and doing operative..!! Right now very slow at pace.. I was very disheartened by my part 1 score but this thread really boosted me and I am being able to study again with a ray of hope.
I won't be applying to schools in this CAAPID cycle...
Good luck to everyone who are applying this year. 👍
Keep the good work up and keep motivating !!

Thanks Aims for your effort.

Got the risults from part2. I see lots of people use Dental deks, I start using them for part1 and I found tons of mistakes in them, after I contacted Dr. Lozier he was very rud, and I decided no to use the dd anymore, so I used 3 boks Mosbys with cd, Kaplan part 2 and First Aid and the Color Atlas of Common Oral Diseases by Robert P. Langlais and Craig S. Miller. I think is made for Hygine School but it's a very very good suppliment and highly valuable. It helped me a lot to clarify the pathology. Good luck.

So according to you how far is Kaplan's Q bank helpful for part 2 ???

Its a teaching tool but if you looking for the same exact qestions it will not happen but the schore is accurate, I was about 80-90 on Kaplan so my result on part 2 is 82, but everybody is different, I like kaplan book better thatn the tests. Hope this helps

Thanks for the help and you score is wonderful.
 for you .
Actually I am studying from mosby ,decks ,first aid and not having kaplan as yet so just wanted to know if kaplan Q bank alone is sufficient or is worth buying lecture notes as well !! I am not looking for exact questions but my concern is if kaplan q bank is helpful in keeping us on track for part2 and in attempting the real questions ?? Looking forward for your suggestion !!
