Whether it's true or not, California is known for being more brutal than other states in terms of the competition for medical school seats. Is there anyone from current or previous cycles who were California residents that failed to received any interview invites from the UCs or even USC? If so, what were your stats and where did you eventually end up? Others who received IIs, how many and what were you stats? Any input along these lines would be helpful.

Still waiting for CA love, even though I am sitting on an acceptance. 3.54c/3.43s/31Q. Only ones I applied to were UCI/UCLA/USC/Loma Linda. No word yet.

I applied to UCSF, UCSD, UCI and UC Davis....

Got rejected pre-secondary from UCSF...
Got an interview hold at UCSD (I'm from San Diego...)
And have yet to hear anything from UCI or UC Davis....

But, I received an acceptance at Boston University and will definitely be attending in the fall- so I'm pretty stoked, regardless of the lack of CA love haha

Stats: 3.7 (science and cumulative)...31Q (PS-12/BS-11/VR-8)....from a CSU undergrad!!

IS from Cali and no interviews in Cali? Must fail at life, only explanation IMHO

I have an interview scheduled at UC Davis, but that's it as far as CA goes. I was rejected from UCSF and I'm on hold at UCSD. Nothing from UCLA, UCLA/Drew, UCI, or USC. I am IS with a 3.9ish and a 37. I don't think there's anything terribly wrong with my app, because I have 3 OOS acceptances. I hate this state. 🙁

Damn, some pretty legit stats and still no love. CA is brutal.... glad I live in TX...

Applied this cycle, CA resident, 3 interviews attended...3 more on deck...Rejected pre-secondary from all the UC's, still waiting to hear from USC pre-interview...I just hope to get an acceptance somewhere.
BTW: 3.26s GPA, 35S, traditional applicant, very good ec's. obviously the GPA is what's holdin me back at CA schools

Probably but CA is tough even with a good GPA.

Lol what the hell? TIL you need a 4.1 / 46U to get an interview invite to Cali schools.

My state has no medical school. When I interview at the OOS-friendly medical schools, the interview waiting room typically contains me, 1/3 local in-state candidates, and 2/3 Californians.

I am convinced there are no medical schools in California either.

3.7 GPA, 34Q MCAT. My applications included all Cali schools. So far, nothing from Cali schools except for post-secondary rejections at UC Davis and UCSF. 6 interview invites for OOS schools, and 2 acceptances.

man, i wonder if 3.7/34s are a dime-a-dozen there. Who the heck do they interview?

3.6 and 33. Nothing but rejection. USC is my last hope and nothing from them so far.

Only an interview invite for UCLA/Drew with pre secondary rejections from UC Davis, UCSD, and UCSF. Complete silence from UCLA and UCI. Non traditional and urm but I doubt that had much to do with my invite/rejections (PS can go die in a fire). Incredibly blessed to have the one invite, but I'll hope for more cali love.

2 rejections (uci, ucsd) and 3 under review (davis, LA, usc)

California needs like 3 more medicals schools, UCSB, UCR, and UCSC should get on that quick. Well UCR was supposed to open up for this year, but that didn't pan out. I also hear UCMerced is planning on opening up a medschool soon. c/o 2018 could have more options too choose from as far as Cali is concerned, sucks for us 🙄

The state isn't facing a severe doctor shortage, so it doesn't seem like there's much incentive to open up more schools. Why use tax funds to train doctors here when they can be trained elsewhere and then come here? 🙁

(totally derailing thread, but why does Texas have so few docs? They have a gazillion schools).

UCSB School of Medicine would be aweeeeesome.

Since I live around UCDavis, I heard (not completely sure) that a lot of UC Davis undegrads get more chance of getting into UC Davis med school before any other non UC Davis undergrad applicant. That's what I've noticed from my friends too though. I could be wrong, just giving my 2 cents.

3.9, 36 only got IIs from UCSF then heard from UCLA last week. No love from Davis, Irvine, SD. This CA process makes no sense to me.

My friend who went to Davis with 4.0 GPA and 36 MCAT, but a 9 in VR, did not get an interview. This whole process is pretty confusing.

Oh wow, that is indeed confusing. Those people I knew had scores a little bit below that and they got accepted. 😕 They probably have done something unusual that made the admissions take them..
