is there any student from punjab or knows how i could volunteer in a hospital in punjab? I have been searching various sites but there are no oppertunities in Punjab, only the major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Kolkata, or other southern cities. Also, does anyone know of a website that will allow me to search the government hospitals in the country because that way I may be able to contact the government hospitals in punjab. Thanks.

i guess doctors, punjabis, and NRI's are limited-oh well

Hello,
Are you talking about medical school rotations or just for volunteering as pre-med? or even for residency international rotation?

For volunteering, the best bet is that you know someone there, who can get you in and out of the hospital, show you around, etc. That is easy.

However for rotating there, I would not go through a third party, contact hospitals yourself. I would mainly look at the medical schools in punjab and then their hospital affiliation: definetly Amritsar, Ludhiana,

Baba Farid University of Health Sciences
Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

Look at Patiala, as well.

Google search, info is there. Contact them yourself directly. Also, any relatives that can help you there? Knowing the system in Punjab, that would be a great plus.

Good luck.

I do not know anyone that is involved medically in Punjab, and I tried contacting various hospitals in Punjab but got no response. I think I'll try the hospitals you listed, thank you.

AIIMs, Delhi
Rajindra hospital, Patiala
Medical College, Amritsar
Dayanand Medical College (DMC), Luthiana
Christian Medical College (CMC), Luthiana
Faridkot Medical College, Faridkot.
Post Graduate Institue (PGI), Chandigarh....this does not have a student program or residency, but worth trying.

Try the above.
See the person does not have to be involved medically back home to help you.....just see if they know any medical people. I honestly would not go to a hospital that is not helping you with this...you don't want to go to a foreign country for them.

I would try Delhi by itself. It is close enough to Punjab (8 hours by train, not bad at all trust me). The healthcare system is basically the same everywhere. Don't limit yourself to Punjab. There are medical colleges in Shimla, Patna......try more.. in fact, Chandigarh may have one now. These places are close to Punjab.

Hope this helps.

-Although PGI Chandigarh does not have a med school, it offers most, if not all residencies.

- Chandigarh has Goverment Medical College in Sector 32 and has its own hospital.

- There are many big private hospitals all over Punjab.

- Hospitals may not seem helping because you may not be contacting the right people. Just try to get in touch with some doctors who may be able to help you. Write letters/emails to Medical College Principals/Deans/Department Heads etc.

- You are having this problem mainly because the concept of volunteering is, in a way, alien to most people. You might have to do more explaining.

-Delhi certainly may be a better option being a metro, but looks like OP wants to do it in Punjab. There are ample opportunites. Just keep searching and you will find a way.

Aapna Punjab Hove.............🙂
