Hi, just wondering if anyone heard anything from unc.. their last interview is jan 8th and i assume they start calling about a month before.. I havent heard anything yet. My own state school doesnt want me 🙁 . I just came back from Temple, UPenn, and UConn. I loved them all to say the least, each one had things i liked and didnt like.. if i get accepted, it will be a hard choice.

I gave admissions a call Wednesday and someone told me that they would be reviewing applications at the end of the week and deciding on the pool for the next (and final, I suppose) interview date. She said we should know something by the next week or two. 👍

Chapel Hill called me yesterday and asked if I was interested in coming to the January interview. I said, ahem, yes. So I guess they are starting to let people know. 👍

i'll be there.. got a call yesterday too.

See you there

My brother and I both got a call from UNC yesterday so that was great.. However i am a little wary because there are some great applicants who interviewed at unc and havent heard anything from them yet so I dont know what to think. I dont want to get my hopes up too high. I am surprised only two people got into Chapel hill unless some people arent posting. Anyway, good luck to everyone and to me too 😀

Hi, just wanted to know if anyone knew the ratio of people interviewed to people accepted at unc. Did they mention what your chances are after you get an interview? I want to know what my chances are.. because I know a few people that got interviews but havent been accepted yet. Also, where did you guys stay when you went and how much did it cost? I am trying to find the cheapest, convenient place.. My last three interviews totally broke me.. taxis were almost as much as my hotel and plane ticket combined. Happy holidays everyone.

I only know for out of staters it's about 1 in 3 chance. For instate I'd say you have about 1 in 2, but I'm not sure.

4 interview sessions x 50 interviewees per session = 200 total interviews

81 spots with approximately 10 going out of staters

Assuming about 50 total out of staters are interviewed, out of state changes are closer to 1 in 5 and in-state chances are like 1 in 2. I would expect the
wait lists to be longer for the out of staters, though.

For the record, there are 16 students from out-of state in my class, so you're odds are a little better than 10 spots. Of course, there is no rule as to how many spots fo to out-of state students so it can vary from year to year.

Yep, Dr Guckes mentioned that last year was an anomalie with a few more
out of staters than usual. Regardless, chances are still pretty good!

I have interviewed candidates for two years now here at UNC as a student interviewer. They generally interview 60 applicants at each of the four dates. Approximately 60 are out-of-staters and 180 are in-staters. These numbers vary, but not a lot. The state dictates that a maximum of 20% of the class can be out-of staters. So with a class of 80 students 16 is generally the highest number of out-of staters accepted. As Adam pointed out that is how many are in his class. That gives you a 1 in 4 chance of being accepted if you get an interview as an out-of-stater. Your odds increase slightly because some out-of-staters will elect to attend elsewhere. That leaves approximately 64 seats for in-staters and thus your chances are about 1 in 3. Most in-staters who are accepted do attend so that ratio holds pretty true. Hope that helps.

and also, as Adamlc18 points there are other things you have to factor in other than purely the number of accepted vs. the number interviewed. They offer spots to many who chose not to go there so I stand firm that if you are out of state you probably have a 1:3 shot!

Those are good chances. Can anyone tell me where they stayed and how much it was? Thanks

Whatever the case, I'll be crossing my fingers until February, and keeping the blue UNC thingy on my keychain. If I haven't been accepted by then, I'll cut it up, burn it, and send its remains to Adam along with some mysterious white powder.

LOL, Typo and all his little fairy magic! I'm with adamlc18, actually adam...I've played Typo, he's pretty good with the fairy dust, but even better with the energy sword. Sorry there wasn't a game going on last night Typo...the guys only seem to play on Friday nights cause they all work sunday. I'll try to get something going for like Wed, or Thurs night.

i am out of state, i interviewed in october. i did not get in, and called the admissions office, they only accepted 16 out of state students in december, and depending on how many accept that, 1 or 2 more will be accepted.

I think that they accept 20% out of state students, which makes 16 the total amount of out of state student spots for a class of 80.
