Hi all! Has anyone accepted NOVA? If so have u started working on your financial aid or found housing. Also Yah-e does the dental school sell nova dental school license plates or clothing. I cant wait to sport the nova gear. thanks alot

Calidenti:

Great choice picking Nova. You will absolutely love it here! Just yesterday, as I was bking to campus I was thinking to myself....damn this weather is amazing! It was 85 degrees out! You just can't beat that!

About license plate holders, sorry bud, no such thing at the bookstore. I wish they had. Along that line, there are also no dental stickers, sweatshirts, key chains, ID chain/necklases, folders, binders, and/or shorts! Nova Bookstore BLOWS as far as having dental appearal and gears. We're working on that.

It's like you walk into the bookstore, you'll see Osteopathic, Physician Assistant, Optometry, Law, and other profession/discipline stuff, but NO DENTAL? What's up wit that, huh?

On the brighter side, we do have t-shirts, scrubs, and pens with Nova Dental insignia on them. If you have any questions about the school or anything, please do not hesitate to ask or call. I'll give you my number if you PM me.

Enjoy the rest of your time off.

One bit of info, your class scrub color is light blue (baby blue). That will be the only color scrubs you will wear for the next 4 years at Nova. The administration color coded us.

We, DII are Navy blue
DIII are Hunter green
DIV are light green

Yeah NOVA. I got accepted and sent in my deposit in early Jan., but I have not gotten any new information from them. I just filed my FAFSA two weeks ago, and I don't know what to do next. Any suggestions??? Do you know if most of the dental students live in apts. or rent houses, etc? Cant wait to get out of the rainy weater.

hi!

I was interested in applying to NOVA, since i had a chance to visit the campus a few months ago. As a Canadian applicant, does anyone have an idea to what my gpa should be to have a good chance??? I have a lot of volunteer experience @ hospitals, work part time @ a dental clinic..pretty good ec's also. I was wondering if any of u guys know what my gpa should be to have a good shot @ this school...??

Typically students of the Health Professions Division (HPD), which included dental students, live around campus or on campus housing. If you choose to live around campus, then there are 4 great apartment complexes within walking distance to the school that you can choose from.

For a bedroom, expect to fork out $700-800 a month (util. not included)

For a two-bedroom apartment, it's around $1000 (roommates will work wonders at $500 a piece).

If you choose campus housing, then there are ups and downs sides to this option.

Negatives:

-just as expensive as luxury apartments, but not as nice in quality
-same distance to HPD campus as other luxury apartment

Positives:

-util. are included
-internet access (high speed) included
-may be cheaper for 1 bedrooms

My recommendation: if you have or want a roommate, go with the luxury apartments option.

I also have some classmates that bought a condo right before they came down here last year, but more are doing the "buying" thing this year.

Oh yes, one thing I do STRONGLY recommend you guys doing right now is to start collecting exacted teeth from dentists, especially from Oral Surgeons.

This is what you do:

Call up a dental practice:

The receptionist: Dr. "so-so"'s office, can I help you?

You: Yes, I'm Joe Millionaire and I'm a dental student starting next fall and I was wondering if I can have Dr. "so-so" save all of his extracted teeth for me for education purposes if I provide you a jar?

The receptionist: (puzzled)...you're who and you want what?

You: Yes, repeat the above.

The receptionist: please hold....

(receptionist comes back)

The receptionist will either say "yes" or "no" or that she's going to take your info down so Dr. "so-so" can call you back to discuss your request further.

If a dentist or surgeon agrees to save/collect teeth for you, be sure to ask to meet him or her to thank them in person. At that time, you bring in a jar with teeth solution and your letter of acceptance to show him or her that indeed you are starting dental school.

Usually the dentist or the Surgeon will know exactly what the collected teeth are used for so they won't question you at all why you're collecting these teeth.

Teeth juice = 1 part chlorine + 1 part water + splash of listerine

Have couple of dentists or surgeons collect for you meaning having couple of jars going around. I had three oral surgeons and two dentist collecting for me from March to when I left for Florida in August. The more the better. Leave these jars at their offices until you need to leave for school.

Also, another perk about this, by leaving a teeth jar at these offices, this will provide you another "in" to observe procedures if you wish. I shadowed my Oral surgeons many hours that collected teeth for me. Now that you're a dental student, spend more time in the dental offices if time permits. Get the dental lingual down (mesial, buccal, distal, lingual, incisal, cervical...).

I'm typing too much, I'll stop for now.

😎

I can't wait to get to sunny Fort Lauderdale, and shack-up with the roaches! I was thinking of buying a condo (or whatever), but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about the surrounding cities (like miramar, margate, pembroke pines, lauderhill, etc...), and which ones are desirable to live in.

I've also sent my deposit, and have received very little correspondence from NSU except a webstar pin code. I spoke to Suann, and she indicated that a welcome/information packet should be delivered in March sometime.

I'm excited to meet all my classmates, and to embark upon our new careers together. See you soon....  😎 😎

Hey ddstothecor

When did you get the webstar pin code, and how did you get it?

Anyone know or want to learn how to surf?

Chewie,

I received my pin yesterday in a perforated envelope. I went on the the site http://webstar.nova.edu, and accessed the system, but it wasn't very exciting. Thus far, there is no real information of any value. In the future, it looks like this site will be useful for registration, grades, financial aid reports, and stuff that has to do with the registrar at the school. Now, however, there's nothing to view, so you're not missing much.

Oh, by the way, Surfs UP!😀
I need to learn how to surf-if I get the time between school and the fam.
