I was just curious if any other SDNers are going to the ACS Clinical Congress in DC next week.

I'll be there Saturday through Thursday...taking FLS Wednesday. The program is obviously huge, but I'm definitely planning on attending the resident-student social on Monday night, and the "essential skills/primer for practice" session Monday morning. Then, of course, I'm gonna watch some co-residents sweat at the resident jeopardy.

I'm sure that the people watching will be outstanding. Also, the nerd in me can't wait for SESAP 14, which is supposed to debut at the meeting.

I got better things to do than watch some nerds show off on medical jeopardy.

Dude don't get all upset, I'm actually one of your fans!

I'll be there.

It must be nice to have your program let all of the chief residents off for a week to go...

You won't be laughing so hard when I pioneer a way to use laparoscopic instruments to undo womens' bra straps from two feet away. 😎

I'm going Sat through Thursday. 🙂 I figured fourth year of med school is probably the best chance I'll have to go for quite some time. I missed where the resident-student social on Mon night is. It's not one of the "social events" you have to pay a crap load to attend is it? I'm excited about the conference, but none of the other students from my school are going and I don't think any of the residents here are going either. Maybe the chiefs.

It's a nice gift, although with all the CRS interviews, it's hard to get excited about being away from home for a week. Luckily, the wife and baby are coming with me.

The only downside to the way we do it is that it's hard to go to the meeting any other PGY year because you're covering for the chiefs.

Did I mention that on SDN, or did you learn it from our mutual acquaintance?

It's free for me, and I bet it's free for you as well. The reception is at 4:45pm on Monday in room 146-BC at the convention center. Here's the rest of the info I got via email:

I will be there Mon-Wed. Should be fun...besides the SAGES, is one of the better meetings that I have attended in the past.

hey ill be there jwax if ya wanna meet up. im flying solo from my school as well.

Already here. Staying through Wednesday. Have a million committee meetings and my residents are giving talks that all conflict with other stuff including being here and at ASCO Breast Symposium which is just outside of DC this weekend.

Please wear this shirt to the resident-student social so we can pick you out and say hi.

Looks like that dude took the chance to cure his shirt of the affliction of sleeves.

the double wife beater.
or the wife beater underneath the ex wife beater.
Stella!!!!

The best part is that if you check the picture's link, it seems that's from Guile's winter formal.

Oh, that's really me. It was my MS4 winter formal. We decided to turn it into a bit of a costume party. I promise my outfit wasn't the douche-iest, as hard as I tried.

If I've learned one thing during my time in medicine, it's that you have to be able to make fun of yourself.

Wow, uh, I guess you two made a great couple ...

:scared:

I'm leaving at 0600 tomorrow, which is ungodly early for a flight, but the OU/tx game is on at 2:30pm and you know I can't miss that. Boomer! Then figure it's time for a night of mild debauchery before spending the remainder of the week acting like a grown up. Most of my time will be spent with the trauma track, though the med student and resident tracks will get a some attention as well.

Anyone going to the U/S course for residents on Sunday? I happen to know a 4th year med student is balancing the cost of her trip by being a practice "dummy" for the class. I would have signed up for the vascular course as well, but it involved a femoral artery exam, and I'm just not too sure I want to get that close to my future surgical colleagues.

Cool thanks! I sent her an email, though I really doubt it will hurt anyone's feelings if I just show up.

Are you going to any of the med student program? I'm going to some, but there are just too many other meetings that sound interesting that I won't make it to most of the med student stuff.

Is she hot? DON'T LIE TO ME, I COULD HOLD YOUR MEDICAL FUTURE IN MY HANDS!!!

Checked into the hotel after a long day of traveling with a very young baby and lots of gear.

I've seen tons of old white dudes in blue sports jackets, so I'm confident that I'm surrounded by surgical excellence.

I'm heading to ACS Tues-Thurs, and I still need a place to stay! Does anyone have an extra bed or couch or any kind of space in their hotel room and want to split costs with me for two nights? Thank you!

I apparently have perfect neck anatomy; I was reassigned to h&n u/s instead of abdomen. Practice pt tip: you do not need to push very hard to make good contact and it is rather uncomfortable if there is too much pressure. Cool experience though. This meeting is so worth it. But I'm a nerd.

Well, overall I thought the meeting was a little under-whelming. I think I was expecting some ridiculous circus, which it was, but just not as big as I imagined. Honestly, I enjoyed the ASCRS meeting last May more than this one.

One thing that I found particularly annoying was the talks that I was not allowed admittance to because the "room is full." It seems like they could anticipate volume and pick a bigger room.

I also had the flu most of the week. Initially, I thought it was a bad hangover, but it lasted for 4 days.....

That is why I tend not to go. Most the specialty stuff I would be interested in is too "intro" and the rooms tend to be too crowded. Its more fun for schmoozing really.
