From what the admissions coordinator told me the majority of their acceptances will not go out until January. She said since the application deadline is Nov 1 and the application service is taking up to 8 weeks to process applications, they think it is only fair to applicants for the school to wait a little. I know some out of state acceptances have been sent. I am still waiting on mine for in-state. Are you in state or out?

Yes! I got my acceptance to Iowa. We should have some more on the thread pretty soon. The ADCOMs met last week and letters are going out by Feb 1.

When are you moving to Iowa?

In response to your concerns (as posted on the other thread), yes Iowa is overall very inexpensive to live. However, Iowa City and Coralville are very expensive. The landlords know they have the college students and jack the prices up.
Buy if you can afford to, anything half way nice is around $150,000. But if you choose to live just 10 minutes south in either Hills or Kalona (if you can find rental houses there) the rent drops dramatically. There are also nice towns to the north but the rent discount isn't very much for the same thing to the south. Hope that helps.

Thanks BrightSmile, it looks like I have some house shopping to do. How long would you expect it to take to get to the school from towns such as Hills or Kalona? is traffic not a problem in this region?

I don't know where you are from or the trafiice you are used to. There is NO traffic to speak of in either of the areas I told you about. A little traffic once you get into Iowa City because of the University hospital employees mostly.

Not sure how familiar you are with the Iowa City area, but Kalona is south on Hwy 1 and Hills is south on Hwy 218. It will take you about 10 minutes to get to Iowa City from either place. However, it will probably take another 10 minutes to get to the college from there. One of the difficulties you will have if you live outside of Iowa City/Coralville is finding an economical place to park.

There is a rental in Kalona right now for $675, where Iowa City was $950-$1095.

If you live outside the city limits of coralville/iowa city you can get a parking pass for the Finkbine commuter lot. It will run you about 150 a school year. This lot is a 10 minute walk to the school or a 5 minute bus ride.

In all, to get from a town such as Hills, park, and into the dental school you're looking at 20-25 min each way.

yes, finkbine has a waitlist if you are a faculty/staff member. however, out of town students get a space in the lot, as well as all in-town graduate students on a first-come first served basis the first day of classes.

you won't get information on this, other than during orientation.
