We are using "Lehninger, PRINCIPLES OF BIOCHEMISTRY" and I do not like this book. I'm sure it's not so bad..but I just cannot get a grip on Biochem yet and we have our exam this week. I have all A's in sciences, so I know I can learn. I enjoyed my Wade Organic Chemistry book because there were practice problems throughout the entire chapter and at the end of the book. In this Lehninger book practice problems are at the end and by then I have to search through the book and remember minute details.

What Biochem book did you use? Did you enjoy it? Any suggestions for me?

Thank you

I used the same book and I liked it. Then again the writers of the book (Nelson and Cox) were my professors for the class..

yeah I have a feeling it's not so bad. I am just struggling with it. I am not blaming the book...but I feel that there could be a material that I work better with.

Anyone take the ACS Biochem? Any advice on that exam?

I used the same book and now tutor using that book. You are right that there are not a lot of problems especially for understanding concepts like in chapter 6 where they talk about vmax and km values. If you are looking for more problems either check out or buy the solutions manual. In the beginning of the book they have extra problems for each chapter. Other than that it seems like alot of the biochemistry is just memorizing and understanding concepts. Good luck!

I like the lippincotts illustrated reviews:Biochemistry book.

Dude, Lehninger is premium....that sucks that the book isn't working out for you. It helped me understand biochem like whoa...maybe you should talk to your professor and they could have some insights since they probably are backing the book.

I really like the Lehninger 5th Edition text--I also got the study guide from amazon.com and it helped to practice and study some subjects. The Lehninger 5th Edition text has great problems at the end of the chapters. Which chapter are you in? And don't worry if you are feeling intimidated, biochemistry can shake up the ground for many of us :scared:

thank you everyone for the advice, I'm going to check out some of your suggestions! I do have the study guide and it's pretty good, very thorough.
