I'm going to be working on a startup with a friend. I think this is a very unique experience. Have any of you guys or anyone that you know worked on a startup company and how do you think it has helped/hurt applications?

I started a successful business two years ago (not medically related), and in my opinion, I believe it helped me this application cycle. It shows that you’re passionate and depending on your role can also demonstrate leadership.

It can’t hurt. It can postpone medical school.

I don’t really think it’s all that unique but it requires time and effort through all phases. If you are doing it for application enhancement it seems like there are easier ways to do things. If you are truly committed then med school will most likely be put off awhile. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I found a bunch of students that I have joined to create a weekly newsletter for residents and it's been really fun in my spare time.

Get a lawyer before you proceed any further. People in the business world are cold blooded ruthless ducks with no morals and will eviscerate you, steal your IP and threaten to sue. Walk away & DO NOT trust your friend without binding contracts that protect you and your property.

Just go to med school and take the $350k future income happily. Don’t risk it for something that probably won’t work out
