Called a bunch of places up today and to look at my ERAS app again or submit it for the first time. Now this is where I am confused. Places have said they will call back after looking at my file. None have so far. Am I getting blown off and pushed aside or does this process actually take some time? Has anyone already secure a spot through the scramble?

And when I click Oppurtinities clink like this one, what does this all mean? What is the difference between AOA verfied and Program Reported? Initially it said 5 openings. Then AOA verfied says 9. But Program Reported says 0??? Will the page update when spots fill?

And one last comment: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think the DO scramble tends to be more drawn out than the MD one. Based on my experience from a previous year, it seems that some places even wait until after the MD match is over to fill their spots. Hang in there. Hopefully you'll get good news soon. 🙂

Not having much luck with the scramble. Can anyone comment on what Tradiotional Rotating Internship is about? If I were to reapply next year and match into either family medicine or internal medicine, do I have to repeat intern year? Or can I apply straight into PGY2 spots?

I think is peppy is right in that the process is more drawn out. There are lots of spots of FM, IM and TRI so it's worth taking your time to apply to those if that's what you are going for.

As for the specialties I also got the feeling from the program that I contacted that they are waiting for the MD match to finish so that they can snag a candidate who didn't match MD and wants to go back to the osteo world for their specialty.

Every program is trying to get the best candidates for themselves and if it's a specialty, they have all the power since the DO match day was earlier and they can reserve their spots as long as they want. Sucks for those of us that didn't match (including myself), hopefully we can find a good path for us eventually.

edit: also some of the FM and IM programs state that they allow credit for any post-doc training if you click on the "opportunities link" so the TRI year would count as one year towards residency at those programs (somebody correct me if I'm wrong)

Need some advice. I would really like to stay local, but I also would really like to have a residency. So should I do TRI that is local and reapply to local programs next year? Or should I accept an FP program that is across the country?

This.

You say you "want to stay local" not "I have to stay local because my spouse is the mayor/governor." You can always come back and 3 years is really nothing time-wise.

What are you going to do in the next year that's going to make your application so much better that you'll be guaran-f'n-teed to match locally next year?

Right...nothing. Take the sure thing, move back when you're done.
