I applied to George Washington and received and email from an admissions rep on 12/8/11 letting me know that my application has been received and will be forwarded to the adcom.

I emailed last week just to check in.. The rep. said some departments got bogged down due to the holidays and I can probably expect to hear about mid-february.

If you've heard back, did your app get received about the same time (12/8)? What track did you apply to?

I applied for epidemiology and I got my acceptance on Tuesday. SOPHAS mailed my application on Dec 20 and GWU confirmed on Jan 9. Hope you hear something soon!

SOPHAS got sent Dec 8. GW received it Dec 22. Haven't heard anything yet. Applied for Primary Care but for Summer 🙁

I emailed admissions asking when I'd hear and they told me mid-february. People who sent applications in december/ were received in december got severely bogged down due to the holidays and the adcom being on break.

Yeah, I just got accepted to their Health Policy MPH program today. I think the time frame for admissions depends on the department because Health Policy was extremely fast. I submitted my app to SOPHAS 1/20, was sent to GW on 1/24, and got an acceptance email from the chair Paula Lantz today. 😀

Congrats! Did you apply to Georgetown as well by any chance?

Thanks! And sorry but no, I didn't apply to Georgetown so I'm not sure how their admissions works.

my sophas got sent to gw on 1/25 and i got the decision (informal one) today...so about 10 days for me for the global health track.

Did GW send you an email to confirm that they received your application? Mine got sent on 1/31 and the other schools confirmed, but I've gotten nothing from GW.

Wow some of you got your GW decisions fast! My app was sent to them on 1/24 and I received the confirmation e-mail on 1/31. I applied for the Health Promotion program.

i did. actually my confirmation date was on the 25th, my sophas got mailed on the 17 th

I received an acceptance email yesterday (2/3). I submitted my SOPHAS application on 1/2 and SOPHAS sent out my application on 1/24. I wasn't expecting such a quick turn around!
Best of luck to all!

Congrats! What program/track did you apply to?

I applied to GWU for the DrPH in Global Health track and still have not heard back from anyone. Has anyone else applied to that this program?

Just fyi for you all...GW SPHHS hosts an open house/visit day for all admitted students in March, so you should hear from them before then. Usually it's around late March- great way to meet people in your department & current students!

@Epiqueen- I think the DrPH programs tend to interview folks later March/April, so you might not hear from GW right away.

I heard from GW today and was accepted into the Prevention & Community Health MPH program! :soexcited:The email said my "offer packaged" was being finalized and I would have that next week but she just wanted to let me know of the decision now. That was really nice I thought! I emailed last week and they told me I'd hear mid-February...

Since the email mentioned finalizing an "offer package", does that mean they are considering giving me some sort of merit scholarship? One can hope!

Congrats to those who also got in :highfive:

YAY, I also got into the Department of Prevention & Community Health MPH program at GW! I got the same email about them finalizing the offer package...so hopefully it is a scholarship! 🙂

What program track did you both get into, just out of curiosity?

Congrats! 🙂 Do you think you will go to GW? I'm deciding now between BU and GW. I went to an information session at BU and sat in on a class which was very interesting. I'll probably go to the GW accepted students event in March to help me decide!

In the mean time... can anyone speak about GW ( Maternal and Child Health Program if possible)? I've lived in DC for a summer interning at a non-profit and loved it there. If any one can offer there input on GW; professors, research opportunities/connections, and internship placements it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Congratulations everyone... I had applied on January 10th and I received admit today morning - Epidemiology program.... In the mail, they mentioned that I will receive the details of my full package in a week's time.....

Congrats all...

Anyone apply to or hear back regarding the DrPH in Global Health at GWU?

I'll pm you.

I'm on the Health Promotion track.

@MPHApplicant902: I also worked in DC during the summer and loved it! GW is definitely my top choice but I'm still waiting to hear from a few other schools to compare finances. I should be at the preview day, so maybe I'll see you there!

I really loved the MCH travck at GWU....its one of the few schools of public health that has this focus. The PCH department itself is really great to- all of the faculty in each track are very nice and doing a lot of research outside of GW. For MCH, since its such a small group you really get to know everyone in the track and the professors really well.

I will say though, you will only get what you put into this program. GW isn't the type of program where they 'hold your hand' since the MPH program as a whole is fairly large. You HAVE to be proactive about making connections with faculty who do work you're interested in to develop relationships. You also have to be really proactive about getting good sites for your practicum and Culminating Experience (CE). I did this and was able to snag a paid position for both & get involved with published research, however this was definitely not always the case.

Congrats on getting to all- GWU is great school and in an even better location!

I e-submitted on 1/12 and sophas mailed my application on 1/24. I applied for the Health Promotion track and received an email on 2/9 notifying me that I was selected for admission, with the offer package to follow next week.

Got my official "acceptance package" email today from GW as promised. They said the official hard copy will come in the postal mail.

My letter said I have been "provisionally accepted". Which requires that I meet academic bench marks in the first 9 credits of my program. (Maternal and Child Health)

Did anyone else get a letter like this? All of the other schools I've heard back from have just "accepted" me. Is being provisionally accepted common/their way of saying I didn't quite make the cut but they're taking me anyways?

Thanks! Just a bit confused... 😕

It just means that you must meet all the requirements they set otherwise they can ask you to leave the program...it's not marked on your transcript or anywhere else that I remember. If you email the folks with admissions they can answer any specific questions you may have about why you were "provisionally accepted". I know it may sound negative, but it's still an acceptance so no worries! Congrats on getting into GW- the MCH department is great!

My offer package says I will receive a letter by post or regular mail.
Secondly, it says I am accepted and nothing about provisional acceptance.

If you're seriously considering GW, I wouldn't worry about it. I think you basically have to get a 3.0 and no grade below a B in your first semester, which shouldn't be difficult. I'm not sure why they do provisional acceptances as I haven't heard of other schools that do it.

My app was sent out on 1/24 for the Health Promotion track. I'm getting discouraged since they seem to have a fast turn around 🙁.

You need to maintain a 3.0 (B) average for the entire MPH program regardless of the department (otherwise you're on probation and might be asked to leave the program) in order to continue in the program & graduate- this is NOT something that is restricted to provisionally accepted students. I think GW is the only school that provisionally accepts people too...but like I said it sounds negative however it's still an acceptance. There may have been something in your application that may have raised concerns regarding admission to the program- hence the provisional acceptance.

Thanks for the feedback. I emailed asking if they could please tell me why I was "provisionally accepted" but I haven't heard a response yet. I went to undergrad at top liberal arts college and graduated cum laude with a 3.7 GPA (as calculated by SOPAS)

The only thing I can think of that may have raised a flag with GW are my GRE scores... however I would think a solid 4 years of undergrad work work prove to admissions that I am capable of the work in their master's program?

But as you said, it's an acceptance! I'm just curious what admissions will say if they get back to me..

I'm not sure if they will since they have been some changes in the short time since I was an applicant there...it's good that you emailed them though to get feedback. I was told 'unofficially' (for me personally) that my lower GRE scores raised some concern, even though my undergraduate education painted a different story- this is why I was provisionally accepted to the MCH program.

I applied for the Health Promotion track as well (MCH falls under it). I submitted my application back in November and just heard back in February (as of last week) that I had been admitted.

I think the Health Promotion track has one of the slower turn around times... so don't give up hope just yet!

I know someone who was provisionally accepted and it was entirely based on her GRE quant score. She was a great candidate otherwise.

I was also 'provisionaly accepted'. It's a little bit of a turn off, but nonetheless I think it's a fair deal. I don't think it would be difficult to maintain that standard.

I also have acceptances from Tulane and UT-Houston, so it's going to be a tough decision!

I was accepted for Fall 2012 MPH in Health Promotion at GW, but haven't received financial aid information. Has anyone received a financial aid package from GW? And is the package just loans or does it include other awards like work-study?

When did you apply? Per the website, applicants who met the priority deadlines for admission and Fafsa submission should receive an email on April 1. I haven't yet received mine, but I'm trying to be patient given that yesterday was a Sunday. I think those who completed their applications later are notified in June.

I applied and submitted my FAFSA in early January, but didn't know about calling GW to give them my social security number since it's already on my SOPHAS application. So I won't be finding out until June now, according to the person I talked to from the GW SPHHS Admissions and Recruitment office.

I recently got accepted to GW and saw that you lived in DC for a summer. If you don't mind me asking how affordable did you find living there.. I have seen DC is suuuuper expensive. How did you fund living there?
