Well, I'll be glad to breath more life into this thread! 🙂 So how about interview invites? Anything new there? I was complete Nov. 12.

I was complete Nov 15th (in-state), and nada yet.... 😕 I think I'm going to call them and see what's going on

Tristy ~ I bet that you'll hear something pretty soon.

Khenon - I hope that you get that interview!!!

Felipe & Lilmo - Good luck with those finals - almost done and then you'll be 12.5% doctor! 🙂

Well you've got an advantage over me then . . . I'm out of state. Let me know what you find out though. Thanks!

Thanks Eva! I know this is the worst time of the year . . . people are on vacation, schools are closed, etc. I knew I'd probably have to wait until after the new year before hearing anything, but it's killing me! 😛

thanks eva! another final out of the way with only one to go. there's definitely going to be some celebrating going on friday night.

Here's to hoping that all of us who interviewed at the begining of december get the best christmas present of all, an acceptance!I know I shouldn't even be hoping for a letter yet since interviews were only like 2 weeks ago, but I can't help staking out the mail box. Good luck everyone!

The early November interview group (Nov. 1st - 3rd) got letters by Nov. 19th. So you have an excellent chance of hearing something very soon! 🙂

I need for someone to call KU and find out 1.) Did they finish reviewing the Dec. interview block last night?, and 2.) Did I get in?

you could call them, the admissions office is friendly 🙂

I think this is only relevent to Datko and myself...I called and they said the review process was complete and the letters will go out Friday or Monday. She said there is no way to find out your fate before you get your letter. Best of luck.

I have to work until 3pm everyday but I have my wife waiting by the mailbox. I actually spoke with another KSU Premeeddie last night who interviews on the 3rd as well. Now I know at least 3 people that will be waiting.

do you have to wait till a letter gets to Tx before you know? That could add a day or even two to the process.

Good Luck

The letter is going to my parents house...I'll be getting home for christmas on the 22nd...I'm hoping it will be there waiting for me.

Are you going to school in TX? What town do your parents live?

Maybe I already mentioned this but I am reporting to San Antonio TX, (Ft Sam Houston) on Jan 23rd for 10 weeks of Officer training in the National Guard

Im finishing up my masters at the university of texas at san antonio. I'm originally from leawood, ks...my parents still live there.

This is exciting Datko and Sty - let us know the outcome! I'm sure this is completely nerve wracking for you all - hopefully it will all be over with soon. 👍

LOL, thats how it was for me as well.......my parents got the letter and were flippin' out waiting for me to call and give them the okay to open the letter. Naturally, I went to see the Lord of the Rings that day, so I didn't call them for like 5 hours. I hope you hear good news, and if you don't, remember to not lose hope.......many people will hear good news later on, especially b/cw we usually have some damn good WL movement

my wife is currently transferring to KU's Architectual engineering program so she is receiving a lot of mail with the little jayhawk in the corner. Many of the letters are stamped with "IMPORTANT ENROLLMENT INFORMATION" so even though I know it is not possible that I would receive such information so soon it still gets me for just a few seconds when I see the mail. Yesterday it happened again. It was a little white envelope with the jayhawk in the upper left quadrant and I let my heart race for a few seconds then I see my wifes name on it and I once again drop back to my HOLD state.

That's frustrating! Especially since you should get a letter from KU Med any day now (maybe today)! :luck:

eva

I know you are already accepted to Ku. You have already graduated and are working so I was wondering if this is your first applicationa and if so why not apply last year or at least ED?

there are only about 40 people in the warehouse today compared to a normal of 700 people so my office is SLOW and its getting boring. I might go home soon.

Hey Datko ~

This is my first time applying and I didn't take the MCAT until August of this year (too late to apply EDP). I didn't apply last year because I wasn't sure if I wanted to become a medical doctor yet. My year at the NIH made me certain that this is my passion! 🙂

Nothing in the mail today, maybe tomorrow

I'm on hold until March...four more months of uncertainty

last year i had one of the first interview days (clear back in october) and got put on hold until march while my bf (who interviewed the same day) got right in. but after waiting on pins and needles for months, I was accepted. so i guess the moral of the story is to relax, try not to stress out, and have a wonderful holiday. good luck :luck: :luck: :luck:

Hey Sty, if it makes you feel any better, I was put on hold in November so I've had an extra month of driving myself crazy. I've been trying to put it out of my head by watching KU play basketball (what was CJ Giles thinking?).

Good luck to both of us in March.

"HOLD" for me as well

So I finally grew a pair, and emailed KU for an update. They said my file is complete and in "final review." That sounded very "final." Like rejected. I'm scared. :scared:

I got in!!!

hey, if anyone is out-of-state, it's not impossible!!

😀

Thanks for the info! and CONGRATS!!! I'm out of state, been complete for about 2 months now, and waiting patiently!!

:scared:

to those of you who got put on hold: relax!

KU traditionally has A LOT of movement from the "on hold" stack. They're really strange in that they take a bunch of people from ED, then only the very best from regular decision. The rest get put on hold until the spring - when a good number of them get in.

We're pulling for you!

Congrats MedicEZ on getting in to KU MED. Awesome!!! 👍

To those of you on hold - I know that the waiting game sucks, but I hope that things turn out alright in the end. My bf was pulled off the waitlist last June and is now doing very well at KU med. GOOD LUCK!!!! :luck: :luck: :luck:

the above posters are right on the money: don't lose hope yet, b/c there's a lot of action to come in early 2005. Remember that its probably a good idea to play an active role while you wait: if you're truly interested in KU, let them know that by sending letters of interests and updates in your application. Don't go overboard by calling them/sending them crap every 2 days, but take the time to compile something nice that you think will give the adcom a friendly reminder of who you are and why you should be chosen. Good luck peeps, and remember, its still relatively early in the season :horns:

I'm one of those hold people and I found some good info while at work today.

400-450 interviews at KUMC from admissions dean
175 slots at KUMC, 190-200 acceptances offered + wait list
40 slots for EDP (http://www.ku.edu/~kupremed/meetings.html)
then the top 5-10 from each of the interview groups..
THere are 5 interview "groups" (Oct, Nov, Dec, 2xJan)
so lets say 40 from EDP and then another 25-50 from the Top of the interviews.

This leaves about 110-135 slots still available to all of us HOLDERS.

Even with all this nice info, WAITING STILL SUCKS!!!!

Did any of the other Holders get a letter with a typo? mine said they will accept another 1905-200 applicants. This sounded great to me

hehe..yeah i got the same typo. I had to read it twice.

Felipe5/to anyone - As far as sending letters of interest after you're put on hold, does that really help? and what exactly is a letter of interest? (any examples?)

hey monkey,

well, if you search around SDN, you'll see that the whole letter of interest/letter of intent deal has pretty much 2 schools of thought. Some say they help, while others say they doesn't even matter.......personally, I sent in letters of interest to one school and letters of intent to another school that I was waitlisted at, and I never ended up getting off of those waitlists. Yet despite my experience, I still think that letters of interest are good. I think its a way to refresh the adcom's memory of you, while allowing you to reiterate your interest in the school and tell them about your recent accomplishments. A lot can happen in the 4 months + that you are on hold, and so long as you take the time to write a genuinely sincere letter, I think it can only help you out.

As far as what to write, I would include why you liked about the school, how you think the school fits into your short and long-term goals and ambitions, and what you can bring to the community at KU. As stated above, a list of recent accomplishments and grades would be good to include as well. The rest is up to you. Think about it: if you're gonna wait 4 months, you might as well take an active role.......what else do you have to do????

hehe...well I was going to pick my nose for awhile. Thanks for the info felipe5, I might give it a shot.

So how many of you current med students at KU actually wrote intent letters?

Not much else to do, i think ill try it

Datko said:

i didn't write any letters or send thank-you cards. i just waited and waited until february finally rolled around. not that this was the best way to do it, but it worked for me. if you do send letters, my best advice is to make them sincere . some of the adcoms can smell a gunner a mile away😀

Have any of you nonresidents received an interview yet? I'm from Oklahoma and I'm still waiting for one.

Oh, thank GOD, I'm not the only one!! I've been complete since Nov. 17, and I'm still waiting. I even emailed them, and they said my file was complete and in "final review." That whole "final" thing really worried me. I felt like they were sending me a subliminal message: "you're rejected." It's kind of freakin' me out too because their last interview slots are the end of Jan, so it's not like we have alot of time left. I don't know, but you're not alone. I'm still waiting too. 🙁

I received my invite sometime last week. I'm from Texas, but have strong ties to KU (went there for 2 years undergrad + my sister is an MS3). The invite was for Jan 7.

Hope this helps (at least info-wise)

Best of luck to everyone and Happy Holidays to all!

I realize this is super redundant, but . . . when were you complete? Thank you! 🙂

Hey everybody, I just wanted to say that I got into KU!! WHOO HOO. My file was complete in mid Oct., I got an interview on Dec. 3rd, and I got an acceptance letter on the 16th. It's my first acceptance, waiting on a few more, but I'm so happy.

I'm out of state but went to KU for my undergrad degree.

CONGRATS! You must be so relieved. How long ago did you graduate?!

has anyone who's been admitted gotten any of the more official paperwork yet? so far all i have is the acceptance letter, and i'm wondering when we make it more official?

i don't remember them sending out much information. i think i was pretty clueless until orientation week. but then maybe it was because i kept losing all of the paperwork.........

i think my letter stated that the school would send me paperwork in february

Yep...we just have to wait until february. Until then, I think I'm going to just keep questioning whether I was really accepted or if they made a mistake!!! I hope its the former! 🙂

Hi!

I finally got my KU interview last friday!!! 😀 I called about 2 weeks ago and what I got out of it was that I was rejected for sure, but, in the end the interview came (both by e-mail and phone call). Did you get yours? Anybody else interviewing on Feb 10th? :luck: :luck: :luck:
