Anyone here from University of Iowa?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I decided to be a pest and email Elaine...no decision on my application yet...ugh! First, I was told it would be by the end of January, then bumped to the middle of February. Now, Elaine says that the committee will meet again March 2nd to finalize the class and select alternates.

wow, they really are taking their time with these last acceptances. Hang in there everyone! I know a few kids still waiting, hoping at least one gets in so I have someone I know going into the first day haha.

Moonie, I agree. I'm on there, but not much action going on at all.

I am gonna give Elaine the link to the group and ask if she could maybe put it on ICON or email it to those attending, maybe this way we can get something going.

I know for sure I don't know anybody but wish to know as many of the class as possible before we start school.

Has anyone received any updates recently or are we still thinking March 2?

Yeah, I called Elaine and she said after March second to me as well.

I got excited seeing this back on the 1st page, wish there was some new accept-ees! Hang in there everyone. 👍

March second will be here soon 🙂. Hope you all get in. 👍

Going into undergrad, if you are originally an out-of-state student, but obtain Iowa residency by sophomore year, are you eligible for the Deferred Admit Program?

I'm not for sure about this, but I don't think Iowa allows students to file as resident just because you have lived here for 2 years while in school. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. I had a friend who worked part time and was a part time student to become a resident, then she began to take a full course load. I guess they don't take it as residency since the reason you are here is only for school. However, I'm not sure how this would effect the deferred admit program, as I did not take part in it. Do you have to be a resident for the program?

Generally to establish Iowa residency you have to live in Iowa for 12 continous month and you can't be a full time student in any college in Iowa and if you are working you file Iowa tax.

I also don't know the details of the DAP but am sure its for Iowa residents only.

Got in today!!!!! What a miracle! First acceptance and I am out of state

I received a phone call. ISIS still says "in progress"

My buddy was accepted 3 weeks ago, he was excited!

I got waitlisted 🙁 I called yesterday. Does anyone know how fast the waitlist moved for the past years? Thanks!!

Just wondering if anyone's isis updated this morning.

I am in-state and have heard nothing! I emailed Elaine earlier this morning...but for the first time ever, received no response from her :-(

Wow, I literally did the exact same thing! Maybe she wasn't in the office today?

I emailed her too, about filling out the FAFSA, no response. I think she was out of the office today. Usually it doesn't take her long to respond.

Well that is comforting I guess...normally I would say no news means good news, but in this case...might mean rejection :smack:

When I called, she said she will have a meeting today. She will send out emails to those who get waitlisted tomorrow.

Well...I got an email update today. I am in-state and have been selected as an alternate. Of course I will tell them that I do want to be an alternate...but what do you guys think the chances are for an in-state student giving up their spot?

At least you got an update. I am guessing no update means rejected?

The last couple of years they haven't taken anyone off of the waitlist, however, years prior they have usually taken one sometimes two for residents spots. This is what I was told when I was on the waitlist. The spots are numbered as well. Goodluck everybody!

🙁 I spoke to Elaine and I am waitlisted OOS. I guess it's better than rejection. Congratulations to all who made the cut.

If any Iowa residents are wondering....just found out from Elaine that she sent out alternate offers to 3 Iowa residents. Like civy87 said...Elaine told me that it is very hard to predict what will happen. She said in years past they have taken 1 or 2...but sometimes nobody has gotten in off of the list.

I REALLY hope that a couple Iowa residents decide to go elsewhere...please!!!

Keep the faith! I think once I had given up all hope was when I got in. I for one know how hard it is to get the waitlisted letter as it has happened for me at 3 other schools. I'm pulling for you.

Just got the greatest phone call of my life this morning!!! Accepted off of the in-state wait list 🙂

Congratulations!!!
Similar thing happened to me last week. Got accepted off the OOS waitlist with a $15,000 per year scholarship offer. Ended up turning them down for my state school, but still! Keep hope alive!
