Anyone here go to Creighton?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm have a question about their dual PharmD/MBA program. Is it hard to get in? Do they look at your pharmacy school gpa's or do they also look at the undergrad grades?

I just wanted some general thoughts on the program and some ideas about what to expect the first year.

I'm a P3 web-based Creighton student. I don't know much about campus life, but I have taken all of the classes. I would have to describe the first year as a confidence builder. I can't speak for biochem because I took that during my undergraduate program and it transferred over, but I was shocked at how easy the first year was. I got straight A's with virtually no effort.

Then the second year came and hit me like a brick in the face.

Overall, I am very satified with the program. The teachers and the administrative staff are all great and they truely want to see you succeed.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions if you have them.

I was accepted by Creighton University last year--too bad I turned it down and chose to go to WPB 🙁 WEll, i can't turn back time and regret it forever. But my point is that wait until you received another letter of acceptance from other schools to see which one will better suit you. Anyhow, Creighton school is a well-known school, one of the best in Nebraska, and it has medical, dental, and other health programs too, which can broaden your education experience. So, there you go.... and it has its program for a very long time too, i thought that they celebrated their 100th b'day last year, so they know how to set the curriculum right, not just trial and error!

Hi slimcutt,

I actually just got back from my interview with Creighton for their web-based program. I was really impressed with their overall professionalism but also the keen interest that they seem to take in their students. All of the candidates interviewing for the web-based pathway attended a session with a P-4 web-based student and she really helped me understand a lot of the benefits and a few of the challenges with being in the web-based program.

I guess my questions for you would be, do you feel a disconnect say with the professors and campus-based students given that you only see them once a year for only a few weeks during the summer? Have you felt at any point that you have missed out on certain opportunities such as participating in campus pharmacy-related organizations and events. At any point have you felt like you were teaching yourself and how have you dealt with some of the really difficult classes?

Thank you so much for taking time out to share information about this wonderful program!

I would definitely say there is a lack of connection between the web students and the campus students but not with the professors. Just like a campus student, as a web student your professors will know you if you are active in class. In the more difficult classes, I communicate with my professors on a regular basis by email, discussion boards, or over the phone.

You do miss out on campus pharmacy events, but you are required to attend either local or national professional meetings so you do get that sense of community.

I have actually never felt like I was teaching myself. With every class, you have lecture handouts, PowerPoint slides, and audio of the lecture so it feels like you are in class. Also, with every class you have mentors who are quick to reply to any question you have. If you are having trouble in a class, free tutoring is provided by students in the Rho Chi honor society.
