This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
heard NOTHING from boston, tried to contact the admission department. no luck. all they tell me is, Check PharmCAS updates ! Actually they are quite mean people. The tone of the email and when they talk on the phone is not very nice.
LIU: didnt apply, but i heard they sent out their last email for the interview call.
GOOD LUCK !

Well, I know ALOT of people who go to LIU. So, thats how i know it. but you never know...
I am giving up on Boston, the latest i heard from them was, most of the interviewes are over now !
I have an interview at University of Charleston, WV this Saturday !!!!!

Stop spreading rumors that the last interviews have been sent out. I called them up today and I was told that these are false rumors and that interviews would continue well into the end of April.

They told me same; but I heard from LIU prepharmacy students.

does anyone hear from MCPHS and LIU today?

I DONT THINK i am spreading RUMORS.
here's the proof: http://www.liu-interview.net/

Interviews will be conducted between March 3, 2008 and April 5, 2008.
Note: Only those applicants selected for an interview will be notified via email or mail. Only those applicants who have been contacted by the College of Pharmacy can schedule an interview. Invited interview candidates will receive notice approximately 2-3 weeks prior to the scheduled date in order to allow time to arrange travel and accommodations. The interview packet will provide further information about the process and requirements. The interview will take place at the Brooklyn campus of Long Island University in the Pharmacy building.
I dont want to shatter your hopes but this coming straight from the college website. GOOD LUCk. I hope you get into your top choice colleg.

that's what I heard from people

They probably haven't updated that site yet. The other thing they haven't mentioned to anyone is the appeal process. Basically, if you think you should have gotten in, you go to admissions, ask them what is going on and what needs to be done to get in.

did you talk to Dean?

Nope. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ..its seems that , you really wanna go there. did you try to call them?

Of course, you only apply for schools which you want to be.

Well, they didn't let me talk to the dean because he was too busy and since I didn't want to give a reason for talking to him, because I knew that they would just refer me to the advisers, who either don't know anything, or have been instructed not to give straight, definite answers.

So, I talked to a couple of advisers, they told me that you should definitely hear by the end of April, and if you get rejected, there is an appeal process during the summer. The process is a lot more convenient if you're already a student of LIU.

Once you're in the program, its not too hard since you just have to maintain a 2.3 each semester, not a 2.3 average. What happened last semester, was that about 15 students were placed on probation for falling below, but all they gotta do is go above a 2.3 and they stay in, they don't need a 3.0 to fix it. About 5 students got kicked out last semester.

Secondly, they told me that a lot of the out of state students that apply and get in, are not likely to go to LIU if there is a closer school, meaning spots will open up.

Third, the Association of Pharmacy or whatever that is, only allows LIU to graduate 206 students each year, last year there was trouble when LIU graduated a lot more, resulting in penalties and fines.

I believe that the third is bull, the association is trying to control the market for pharmacists.

If there is a shortage of Pharmacists, and there is gonna be a even bigger one because the baby boomers are going to retire sometime, shouldn't they be thinking about allowing schools to graduate 400-500 students a year? Making it easier to get into Pharmacy school?

are you serious that we can appeal the process? that's unbelieverable. Anyway, hope to hear from them.

I have applied to LIU but have not heard anything back yet. I applied in January though.

me either. so nervous and mad. are you LIU student? did you try to call admission office?

Yes, I am serious. From what I know, the initial rejection letters are sent basically on the premise that you weren't one of the top 206 best candidates. Its unlikely that all of the 206 candidates are going to be attending LIU, so spots will open up. Spots also open up when people slow down during the Spring Semester and fall below 3.0. LIU is pretty notorious for that. I'm just gonna ride out the storm now, I'm done fretting about the process.

The whole issue with me is the family pressure, basically in my family, everyone is your parent, your parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and when a rejection to something happens, your 4th cousin's know about it and it sucks. Then I get the "I told you so", and "now what are you gonna do" lectures. This usually relates to the one day I take off work and go paintballing or snowboarding during the semester, and then the more I argue with them, the crazier it gets, etc, etc.

Are you serious? I really want to get invitation from LIU.

If people do go elsewhere, I don't understand why they wont just select people who they invited to interview but were initially rejected. I mean, they invited 400+ students to the interview, I can't see why they would turn to someone they didn't even invite for the interview.

That being said, someone I know got her invite last week, so maybe they're still sending out interview invites.

I'm not sure if they would turn to someone. Basically, if a spot is open and I happen to call up and meet the minimum requirements, odds are that I could get in. It worked for my boss. He was applying to St. John's back in the 1970s for the Pharm.D program, he got into LIU but was waiting on St. John's, he drove by St. John's, went to admissions, met with the dean, they had a spot and they took him.

I went to the LIU interview this week and talked to a few people. The ones I talked to were out of state pre-pharmacy students.

I got an interview invite around the end of February and went to interview around the end of March. Hope this information helps you guys out!

I'm sorry, but I really can't see that happening. Schools usually have waitlists in case people decline acceptances.

Maybe back in the 1970s the application process was not as it is now. Thats what I'm thinking tho...not sure 🙂

Did they even have PharmD in the 70s ???

Taken from Wikipedia:

"In the United States, the PharmD. (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree is a professional degree that prepares the graduate for pharmacy practice. [1]
Traditionally in the United States, the bachelor's degree in pharmacy was the first-professional degree for pharmacy practice. However, in 1990, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) mandated that a doctorate in pharmacy would be the new first-professional degree."

Thankyou~~~ 😀

Anyway you put it, you still have to pass the boards to practice. Sure, doctorate sounds nicer, but in the end it is just a piece of paper, and please don't tell me that the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, is just a piece of paper.

The frustrating part about LIU is how long they took to tell us that they are going to go with PharmCAS. I got the paper from LIU explaining the application process for the 3rd year like in mid-October. I knew that I had to take the PCAT, but yeah, by telling us this in mid-October and telling us to wait until the semester was over, and the grades had been processed to E-Submit, they screwed us for any other schools.

At the time, I thought that all schools had a deadline of February 1st. I'm guessing the reason why a lot of LIU Pre-Pharms haven't heard anything is because of the fact that they e-submitted like 10 seconds before February 1st.

I heard that LIU finishes interview for all pre pharmacy LIU students yesterday. I do not know whether it is true or not. you may find out in your school since you are LIU student

It isn't. I know someone who had an interview today.

you mean LIU prepharmacy student? I heard it from someone, that's why don't know it is true or not

I've applied as a transfer student to both schools and i never heard anything back. 🙁

Me too. I called them so many times, they always tell me that the file under review, decision is not made yet. what about you?

Oh wow..at least you called. I didnt even do that....and even if I had, they'd probably have given me the same response. Oh and as far as MCPHS goes, I heard that a lot of times they accept students into the 2nd year which means they have to go thru all the prereqs again...which is totally not worth it. I did get accepted into Northeastern Grad entry PharmD program so I will probably be starting there in Fall 08...I am hoping you got in elsewhere too??

Thanks. I really hope that get into one of these two schools.

I'm gonna fire off an e-mail to the dean asking some questions about the whole thing.

Now, it has gotten really random because I know people with 2.5 PharmCAS GPAs and low PCAT scores getting interviews, and I didn't get an interview with my 2.8 PharmCAS and relatively good PCAT score + 3 LOR and 18 months pharmacy experience, and 3 years customer service experience. It leads me to believe that there is some sort of luck factor in here.

Oh, then let us know what's going on. Anyone knows when the last day interviews are for MCPHS and LIU?

Officially, the last interviews were today guys.

Didn't you guys also receive the update email from MCPHS boston today?

Hey, I just received an e-mail from MCPHS Boston, saying that "all the third year seats and waiting list is full" 😡and if I am interested to enter the second year of the program I must e-mail them back by next week! 🙁

Can anyone advice what I should do? I am still waiting for to hear from another university and I am confused as to whether getting into the second year and then reapplying again will guarantee me a spot in the third year of their program? Can someone help me please?

Help very much appreciated😳
