Do you just go about filling AMCAS again, or is there a seperate standard procedure. Be kind of weird if you had to fill out a transfer form before even getting into a school if you wanted to transfer for your second year. Is transferring more competative or less than regular admissions?

Transfering in med school is not like transferring in college. In med school, transferring is very difficult and usually not possible unless you have a very good reason such as a spouse who attends the school. Some schools do not accept transfers at all, and most of those who do accept them on a space-available basis; i.e. if 1 or 2 med school students in a certain year drop out then they'll accept 1 or 2 transfers to fill the spots.

Transferring has a separate application specific to the school and is not part of AMCAS.

Just from what I've heard, transferring is WAY harder, and some schools don't even consider it. And there's a seperate procedure with different applications. Also, some schools will only consider it for students starting their 3rd year, since the first two years can be so different. Check out the websites of schools that you might want to transfer to - some have that info on their admissions sites.

Its almost impossible, and you usually need a letter from the dean of your current school explaining why etc. Obviously you also need to get things squared away with the school you transferring into. AAMC has a whole site devoted to this. Go to www.aamc.org
