Anyone know of pathology programs that offer prematch?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If they offer pre-match that means they don't participate at all in ERAS. Do any programs actually do this?

Hello,
so I'm a recent graduate who didn't match into pathology this year. I am aware of the new all in or all out policy, where programs can choose to operate out of the match entirely or do the typical ERAS match day process.

I want to try to apply to some programs that offer pre match next year so I don't need to go through all that match anxiety. I am an IMG with lower than average scores, and will have step 3 done before applying.

I have been told that programs offering pre match are usually not top tier. I figure I have better chances with these programs anyway since their objective of pre match. I had a bunch of university program interviews at top tier institutions but unfortunately didn't match this year.

Does anyone know of the programs currently offering pathology pre match? It would really help my residency search!

As far as I know, it's not the individual program, the whole GME department has to opt out of the match. Which means only hospitals with just an IM or FM program are probably going to prematch. Somewhere that has a path residency probably has a loads of other programs in more competitive specialties.

The end result is I don't think there are any prematch path programs anymore, but I could be wrong.

Prematches definitely still exist (I signed one last year), but I am not 100% sure if all-in applies to individual programs or entire institutions. I only say this because my hospital has a rad-onc residency which I highly doubt would be all-out of the match. IM and FM programs are usually the ones that prematch, I have not heard of other specialties that frequently do it as much as these two but I'm sure outliers exist, just check the program websites.

how does the process of pre-match work compared to going through ERAS? what're the advantages and disadvantages?

It's a moot point -- after the new all in rules, 90% of these programs went away. You cn only prematch if you are not a graduating US senior, so it really only pertained to IMGs.

I'm pretty sure "all in" is supposed to be by institution. This past year a number of IM spots around here got pulled into the match because affiliated surgery or specialty residencies wanted to be in the match. Basically this left only a relatively smaller handful of stand alone programs at small community hospitals outside of the match around here. Not sure what this means about your rad onc program.
