I have an interest in both dentistry and architecture, but I want to be a dentist more because the dentistry profession is more hands-on than the architecture profession. But when I go to college, I don't want to major in biology, so I guess my questions is, does majoring in architecture hinder you in any way as a dentist? should I just major in biology?

Hi
It doesn't matter what you major in. I majored in psychology for a bachelor's and then did a master's degree in architecture. and I went on to get into Dental school. if anything they will be impressed because you will have proved to have more manual dexterity and able to visualize in 3-d which you will need in dentistry.

how long did this entire process take you?

My undergrad major was German and it didn't hurt me at all! You do have to make sure you do well in the pre-req science classes though because those will be the only science grades you'll have. As long as you do that, you can major in whatever you want! Major in something that you're good at and makes you happy!

That major is probably the best major you could get. on your app you must centralize on your love for art. On your personal statement you must discuss how your desire for art led you on the path to discover how dentistry is the perfect art because its beutiful and with it you can help others.
Dental schools will love this and will jump at you even with low stats because most of them are so artsy fartsy.
good luck

I'm getting my bachelor's degree in Architecture this semester. I will continue my education with a career in Dentistry. The cool thing is that like someone said above, a career in Architecture helps development in manual dexterity as you would (initially) be doing a lot of hand drawing which can get extremely detailed and will also be building many architectural models. It is a beautiful thing to major in, and as long as you get your science pre-reqs taken care of and do good in school, you can surely major in Architecture.

how did you deal with your dental school loan? if had any?

I majored in history and health policy because I knew I was gonna do medicine (and later dentistry) so I didn't see the point of studying biology only to study it again in medical/dental school. I took minimum required science classes and took a lot of classes I was interested in like abnormal psychology, classic philosophy, history of food, etc. 🙂

If you look at the stats, science and non-science majors get into dental school at an EQUAL rate. It's more interesting, frankly, to see an architecture major than another bio major applicant.
