just curious if anyone else received the tusdm email to reply them back if u get into any other school... then withdraw ur app or u r still under consideration for 2011 class...

Yup ...

I assume it went out to all Tufts applicants who haven't been invited for an interview yet.

never received an email or aadsas update

I never got an e-mail either. It's been 5 months since I've heard anything from them. I'm a little worried and it's frustrating because they will not let you know your status. Their original e-mail said it would take 4-8 weeks to review my application. It's been 20 weeks!

I just now this minute got the email. It was my first correspondence from Tufts. Nothing on AADSAS so it was nice to have a little validation.

Just checked e-mail...nothing. I DID receive an e-mail from them 5 months ago when I submitted my application. But after that, I've heard nothing. I don't think they even cashed my check.

Yup got it also. Anyone else think that it is rediculous that Tufts rejects applicants who took even a single prereq at a community college?

Talk about contributing to the inequal access to dental care. From now on lets just accept the wealthy into dental schools.

I guess that's a different way of looking at it. I think they do that because there is USUALLY a big difference in the difficulty level between CC science courses and university science courses.

They do? That's not cool! I didn't take any CC courses, but I think that's unfair to people who are working full time and only have access to a CC for night classes.

wizzie brings up a great point. i personally took a few CC classes myself, granted they are less 25 credits. i'll be graduating from a university may 2007. i took they classes for two reasons 1. i tok enrollment courses while in HIGH SCHOOL to get that extra college credit i'm sure most of also did, i hadnt realized that this would affect my dental school application, i was trying to get ahead. 2. i took summer school while at my university b/c the cost PER CREDIT, at my unviersity, was $400. that wouldve totaled to $5200! versus the $45 per credit at CC. i couldnt afford to drop $5200 in addition to my other tuition annually. and this at a state school!

So i do see Tufts purpose b/c, i will not deny that CC classes are significantly easier than university classes that equvalent in credit/class; However, they are not considering the financial burden of completing every class at the university price.

I feel this is a reflection of Tufts blindness to become an Ivy league school. they want to lose their reputation of becoming an ivy league back up plan. I feel they are turning their backs to excellent candidates and only helping those who already have money and hurting those who do not. I believe they will feel this an error on their part in the future. however, as i mentioned before, ivy league schools usually prefer those w/ money and this is an example of them trying to push themselves to the next level.

i got the email too, but my AADSAS status 4 tufts is still blank. anyone else?

Totally INCORRECT. Even if you've taken CC courses, they'll still consider your application. They will even interview you (if you qualify for one) and they will even offer you an acceptance (considering you did well on your interview). The only thing is that they will ask to retake CC courses over again at at university before matriculation. If you can't finish those classes by their deadline, you won't be able to start dental school.

i agree. i've helped out friends who are taking classes like A&P or chemistry at CC and i would explain things to them that wasn't even covered in class... i think my high school anatomy class was more rigorous than how they described it

Not mine. I took many of my classes at community college and found them to be MUCH better than the science courses at the state school here. Class size of 25 vs. 400 makes a big difference, especially when homework can be assigned, which helps so much in preparing for the test. When I'm done with D school, I plan on donating some serious $$ to my community college, because I feel they gave me a great education at an amazing price.

Example: Took Gen Chem at CC. Studied very little for DAT. Got a 25. Took Ochem at University. Studies tons for DAT. Got a 19. CC prepared me extremely well for the DAT.

I got the e-mail too and it made me mad! They would like me to save them the trouble of actually contacting me about my status? Well - can I have my $60 back???

I have already decided on another school, but I think it's just rude of them to ask. We have made the effort (and spent the money) to apply, and I think we deserve at least some sort of notice. If I were still thinking of Tuffts that e-mail would give me second thoughts.

Out of respect for other students, why don't they just get on with it and either interview us or reject us?

Everyone knew about the requirements before applying to Tufts. Either you follow their rules or you don't get accepted. End of story. Every school has listed their requirements on their websites and you should know what they are before you submit your application. Tuft's isn't the only school that has a no-CC policy either.

Why would you get mad. They are simply asking if you got into your number one choice, then withdraw to give other people a chance. It's common courtesy to withdraw your apps after you get accepted so you don't bog down the application process any further. It's no different than the dozens of threads posted here on SDN asking people to withdraw their apps.

I got the email as well . I understand where they are coming from but i dont think its rite of them to send it they barelygave any updates to me for a good 5 months. Are you guys going to respond to it? Has anyone enjoyed the interview there?

First off, congrats to all of you who have any acceptances. Your hardwork & dedication has paid off, & I'm proud of you & am living vicariously through you at the moment, lol. But, I also totally agree with Tinnman & the above posters. Although I thought it was odd that Tufts made that statement in their email, it does make sense. Make sure you go to the school that you really want & will feel happy there, at the same time, bear in mind, there are still some people out there with NO acceptances, rejections for some & waiting lists for others & while you're worrying about your multiple acceptances, it would bring that person tons of joy just to receive ONE acceptance, with the mayhem that's going on this cycle & be able to have their chance at having their dream become a reality. We all started out worrying about whether or not we would get in anywhere, & some of us are still in limbo, so the golden rule applies here, just imagine if you were still waiting for an acceptance, how would you feel if your future was still up in the air because of something like the above situation. Again, make sure you get into the school you want, but they're right, once you decide, do the right thing & we can help each other out in whatever way possible because we're all the same soldiers in this battle & we ALL shall emerge victorious!!!

Very nicely put. 👍

I got this "confusing" email today from Tufts.

At first, I thought it was a rejection email because I got accepted to another dental school. Then I got quite upset, until I read the email again and again.

Read it carefully and it asked me to contact them to withdraw my application if I got into another school. Damn, they have balls to ask this, don't they?!! 😡

But at the same time, there are applicants who still have not received any acceptances as of yet. I still do want to interview at Tufts and check out their program and facilities.

No, my statement was correct. My DATs were in the 99th percentile, I have above average GPA. They specifically said they would not consider me because of the community college course.

The only thing is that they will ask to retake CC courses over again at at university before matriculation. If you can't finish those classes by their deadline, you won't be able to start dental school.

You don't get the point. If someone can't afford the university tuition the first time they took the course, chances are they can't afford it the 2nd time. It's unfair.

While we're in the process of purging all non-wealthy people from the dental profession, we might as well make it a gentleman's only club.

For all you CC trash talkers, realize that everyone has different backgrounds and if your CC is so aweful then why don't you do something about it and tutor some poor HS kids so they have a shred of hope of being accepted into your super duper University Club.

sir, you sound very ignorant. Have you been accepted to your top choice? If yes, why not withdraw?...If not, don't withdraw--it's as simple as that. They are not demanding you withdraw, only if you do not intend to interview and/or enroll at tufts.

It is a waste of their time to review your application and invite you to interview if you're already set on another school. Not to mention, there are tons of people at that are still very interested in tufts, including me.

thanks,
jb🙂

I agree to your statement. Their rules for application are very easy to find and they don't hide them. Doesn't mean I have to agree with them, I also thought they would look past a single CC course...after all, basic bio is insignificant if you've taken upper division course in my opinion.

I agree. I was so thrilled to be accepted to my #1 and #2. I wouldn't be happy if I had to wait til March to hear from those schools just because someone else had my spot and they weren't interested in it. Now in the next coming week I get to decide if number 1 is still number 1, and then withdraw everywhere.

This email was a PROACTIVE email for the benefit of all applicants (as well as Tufts admin of course).

Yep, I got it to. I was waitlisted at Tufts last year, increased my DAT scores and have yet to hear anything.

when did they notify u of your interview/when did u interview?

Thanks

I applied mid January and got the invite within two weeks, I think I was up there the 2nd or 3rd week in February, and pretty sure I missed getting in by one or two interview dates.

i think one of their pre-req is biochem which i haven't taken so far...i thought they will reject me but still not!!!

I got that email today also. I hope they **** or get off the pot soon.

tufts does not require biochem before acceptance, they expect it before matriculation... meaning that u are expected to have it in progress if not completed. this is according to what someone posted the other day in another thread

Yikes. Ignorant, huh? Well, I still would like my 60 back. I'm broke (largely because of the application/interview process. Seems like there's a fee every five freakin' minutes) and it's Christmas. I guess it pissed me off because they've had my application since August, and have had ample time to decide about me one way or another.

I will withdraw, I know others are waiting and it does me no good to hang on since I know I'm not going there. That wasn't the point.

thanks snug. i apologize if i came off rude.

the bottom line is that the application process is an investment. and you know what they say about investing.... the bigger the reward (i.e. acceptance), the bigger the risk (i.e. application fees, etc.). you took the risk by applying to a school not knowing what the result would be. luckily for you, you got into your top school.. so it all worked out.

good luck man, thanks for withdrawing your app.
jb!🙂

I agree that it's a shame that they send something out like that. I have gotten into 2 schools so far, and each require a committment by Jan. 15th. Even if I received an interview for Tufts today, there is no way that I would bet on them letting me in and letting my spot at the other 2 schools go. So, it would make sense once I make a committment in the next 3-4 weeks to let them know of that. However, I sent in my $60 and application in August!! What have they been doing this whole time? It takes only a matter of a few minutes to take a look at an application and decide whether or not an applicant is worthy of an interview or not, and its been so long. As far as I'm concerned, I applied and paid and deserve to know whether or not they want me, because that very well could have been my first choice.
