damn, for whatever reason, i just couldn't make that thread title sound anything but awkward.

anyway, who else is a little unhappy with the schools they applied to? i've done fine in this whole application fiasco, but i've just realized something: i hate snow. i don't know why it took 22 years of living in ohio to figure that out, but it did.

what does this mean? well, until i got into wake forest last week, my southernmost acceptance was to a school...in ohio. my top two choices were in cleveland and new hampshire. what was i thinking?! now i'm faced with the scenario of having to pay a king's ransom to go to wake if i ever want to move past the days of digging my car out of a snow bank the way a dog unearths a bone.

ultimately, this probably won't be a huge factor when i pick a school (money still trumps weather as a deciding factor), but it does make me wonder why i didn't think of this, say, 6 months ago when i was filling out my AMCAS. why didn't i apply to emory, UNC, florida, florida state, etc.? anyone else wish they had applied to more/different schools?

Probably because Spring was reminding you of the silver lining of cold winters: eventually it melts and you have a beautiful summer, improved by the contrast. Anyway, I LOVE snow and am so psyched to get back into winter sports etc.

I wish I had applied to a couple more top-tier schools, just to see what would happen. I also wish I had known that I didn't need to apply to so many middle-tier schools! Those several thousand dollars would sure come in handy right about now.

I'm still wishing I had applied to my first choice school, the University of Hawaii. Since they don't really take out-of-staters, and since my only connection with the state is through jig-saw puzzles of palm trees and a cousin who has a time-share there, I didn't think they'd be impressed enough to give me an interview.

Maybe I can go there for residency. Although I suppose residency schedules don't really figure in much time for surfing, which is my main aim.

They do in Hawaii! Just like skiing at University of Colorado - must be included in their $60,000+ out-of-state tuition.

I regret some of my choices. I wish I hadn't applied to the schools I got rejected from! Also, now that I am starting to contemplate turning down interviews, I wish I would have saved myself the secondary fees.

i wish i had applied to more reach schools....but overall im pretty happy.

I wish I hadn't applied to so many schools. Darn pre-med advisors. Sometimes I think their goal is to make you feel so discouraged and doubt yourself... and then you apply and you're like, "Gosh... I'm not as dumb as I thought." But in general, I think most of the schools I applied to were good choices.

I think I would have liked to have mixed it up a bit more - geographically speaking. I applied to schools in the Northeast and...Stanford. And that's it. Granted, it's still a lot of schools, but um, America's a big country.

It would have been nice to try some schools in the Midwest or the South. Then again, I've always been an extremist: It's this or that. Stop or go. East or West. Say it with me now: everything in moderation.

Oh, and I wouldn't have applied to Harvard or JHU - they're just not my scene....and I HATE it when I'm ignored. For months on end. 😛

Yeah, I wish I had not applied to Yale. I sent them everything in october, but I'm still not complete. Their office isn't helpful. I feel like putting a stop payment on that $75 check they haven't cashed.....

I would have applied to fewer schools, and I would have aimed higher.

I agree UCLA. I should have had a little more confidence in my application.

i think its pretty easy for any successful applicant to have this regret 😉

my thoughts exactly. most of my schools were in the midwest, with a couple scattered in the northeast. i should have looked to the south and the west, but honestly, interview expenses and accomodations were kind of intimidating while i was rushing to graduate.

I don't really regret the schools I've applied to -- even if I'm not accepted at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, etc, I think I would have regretted *not* applying. But I do wish I had been a little more open-minded when I filled out my AMCAS, and also considered what cities I would like to *live* in for the next 8 years (MSTP). Well, I think in the end as long as I get in somewhere I won't really have much to complain about. 🙂 But maybe if I hadn't applied to so many schools I would have been quicker on my secondaries.

I don't think so...I applied to over 50 schools and if I had to do it all over knowing I would get in I would do it the exact same way. What is a couple grand in app fee's with the security/high chance that if you put all your eggs in a basket you'll get in. Plus you don't have to waste time and money in possibly having to reapply. I remind myself everyday that I won't have to live at home w/ the parents next year...and that is truly priceless.

superdevil, you must have read my mind! i was sitting here going why in hell didnt i apply to these schools and why in hell did i apply to some of the ones that i did???? i have to say that i have been lucky, my reach schools were the only schools that contacted me so far.............man, im sending out some letter of interest to drum up more interest in me...........

i think the thing that got me was the locations of the schools, im going to a school in a really small town and i wanted to upgrade for med schools, but ive realised that the cities of the schools that ive applied to arent exactly as metropolitan as i wouldve liked......... 😳 😳 double bogie!

that's a good point, too. i'm a pretty conservative dude, so i would definitely take the path of increasing my chances versus saving some time/money at the cost of (even more) uncertainty. getting in, of course, is the objective, so what's a little more money, anyway?

You're a superstar, too! I can't wait until you get an acceptance. 👍 I'm rooting for you! 😍

Only on SDN do you read about succesful applicant's remorse .

Im pretty much done after a a couple more interviews in January and I regret not coughing up the dough for a few more lottery tickets to the top tier. When you're not a superstar applicant, its hard to estimate how many NYMCs you should apply to. Until you pop your first cherry, every school looks good.
