Anyone see any issue with these out of state schools?

Whats up everyone? Pumped to be applying and wish everyone luck. I've gone through the adea guide and the guide thats on here regarding out of state schools but wondering if anyone sees anything in my choices that i'm not seeing or has any suggestions? Kinda seems like a crapshoot outside of your home state.

TX resident, business owner, non traditional

Applying to A&M, Houston, San Antonio obviously

take out colorado and especially tennessee. given your stats i'd take out a couple expensive schools like MWU-IL, NYU, ATSU, etc

I wish I could add Pitt and Temple, but I've left them out with Creighton and the Boston schools due to some of my prereqs being from cc

Na you should definitely have at least 15. Your DAT is average and your oGPA is average.

Yeah dude apparently Tennessee is seceding from the nation. Not a good state to be in for dental school right now...

There's also a reported locust swarm that just hit Nashville and is spreading state-wide. Could impact adjacent states as well.

I'd probably drop CO. I've applied there 2x with stats similar to yours and I have never heard anything from them besides the application received letter and rejection letter a few months later.

Roseman can provide you with the mountains which you desire!

Yea I'd be happy with Roseman, I'm hoping living in CO before (moving to Vail derailed my first go at college) will give me a shimmer of a chance but who knows!

Honestly I'm not sure exactly what your situation is like but I don't see the need to apply to this many schools. Your sGPA is killer (which is way more important to schools than 0GPA) and you have plenty of volunteer/shadowing hours if you have the organizations/events and dental practice(s) to back them up. If you can get your hands on some strong Rec letters, I would honestly just apply to the TX schools and screw the rest. That's what I did.

I don't know if money/debt is an issue for you because you said you're non-trad and a business owner, but for me, when I applied to only the TX schools, it was a gamble I was willing to take. If I would not have gotten in the first round to only the TX schools, only then would I have branched out as much as you have here. I'm not sure who told you to apply to that many schools with your stats, but maybe give it a second thought and just fill out the TMDSAS early, send that sucker through, and hope for the best.

Ahh I've been debating that too. All my volunteer hours are pretty much at the same clinic here in Mckinney over past 2 1/2 years so none of that is an issue. I have great relationships with my lor writers and they're in interfolio already so i should be ready to roll may 1. If i was younger i might take that gamble but I dunno if its worth wasting another year over a couple thousand. Tough decision!

I had similar stats and got an interview as an OOS but I was waitlisted... I'd apply anyways because the school is fantastic. Never know how things are gonna turn out and this school is worth applying to.

CO is the greatest state possible. If you want to go to an amazing city, Denver is right there for you. If you want to go ski, theres some world-class resorts. Great concerts because of Red Rocks. Great bars, great sports (go Broncos). There is nothing wrong about this state (besides the notion that everybody from the other 49 think that we are all stoner hippies).

You said it yourself, most of their OOS are from Arkansas. Not worth the $$$ to apply imho

I would just make sure that you know that you would actually go to any/ all of these schools if accepted. I know a person who were only accepted to Roseman, but didn't want to go in the end because they thought they were above the school.

I think all of your schools on the list are fine. I would bet on you gaining entry to a Texas school if you get your app in early... barring anything major you left out.

Washington has deserts, rainforests, mountains, active volcanoes, and great aquatic retreats (ocean access, large bodies of water). Colorado was great but Washington has it beat, and has even more craft breweries than CO. They got legal stores too.

Colorado is a great state and many of the same like-minded people as WA does. I really enjoyed my time there but my vote goes to my home state.
