I have to admit, I thought she had a conversion disorder as soon as she walked in the door. Still lots of pathology in those two though.

For those who missed it, 15 yo daughter supermodel with creepy father who's overinvolved. He admits to sleeping with her when they can't find the reason for her twitching and strange neurological symptoms. 1/2 way through the show, House thinks she has conversion d/o. The residents (who are seeing her in an ICU type setting, did the MRI, read the MRI, the LP, did the brain biopsy, then the pathological exam on the tissue sample after finding increased protein in her CSF) think she has maybe a hydatidiform mole or some form of cancer.

House eventually does a pelvic CT and finds a testosterone secreting tumor on an undescended testicle. The girl, who admits she's a complete slut in life to get by, becomes outraged that "she's a guy" and yells that she's beautiful and can't possibly be a man."

Oh well.

I thought she was converting especially when House clamped the IVIG and her twitching stopped instantly, in an on-and-off fashion. Then again, it's just sorta bad acting too.

They're supposed to be fellows, right? In "diagnostic medicine", though the closest thing to what they do is probably CL psychiatry. That's where you get the "We don't know what the F@$% is going on" consults. We diagnosed someone with Shy-Drager's syndrome today, after a week of begging the medical team to do the work-up. Would be so much easier if I could just write the freaking orders myself... ah the life of the consultant.

Yeah, but they're like super-uber fellows. They mentioned getting a psychiatry consult during the show, but generally they seem to be experts in ID, OB, GYN, Neuro, Pathology, Urology, Hematology, Oncology, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Epidemiology, radiology, dermatology, and just about every other specialty out there.

I know that some hospitals have specialist teams for difficult house cases, but that seems a little nuts.

They went throught the old coma-induced heroin withdrawal cure. Seemed a little extreme.

They are also surgeons, I've seen them doing biopsies and surgical procedures.

Missed tonights episode but 24 kicked a$$!

So their team supposed to get the most interesting cases. Have you noticed that most of those most interesting cases involve psych or neuro the vast majority of the time? Just confirming that the brain is by far the most interesting part of the body! 😛

Yeah, when House insinuated that they "burr a hole in her head" I was like, 'no, they're not going to do that themselves.' After the commercial, I came back to see the stereotactic guider going in. 🙄

Then, they walk the sample right next door and plop it under a microscope. I actually laughed out loud.

What Hurricane says is true though, it seems almost every case has a psychiatric cause at least in the differential.

Hello,

I was confused by her diagnosis: male psuedohermaphroditism. I thought it would be testicular feminization. Does she have a normal vagina or a blind pouch? Seems this would have been found with one of her many partners.
