Anyone shocked by the number of unfilled surgery spots?

Only two open spots for categorical surgery this year, before scramble.

I just scrambled into Mt. Sinai preliminary surgey. I matched to an advanced anesthesiology program in Boston. Can anyone tell me how is the Mt. Sinai prelim program? Please visit my thread.

Wow. Dozens of these spots are usually open and never fill. If this is the case, next year is going to be insanely competitive for surgery because app's are up from med students, plus there'll be hundreds of PGY-1's who will REALLY want categorical spots.
