Anyone still hoping for a howard interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got a rejection from them last year in July I believe. The school is a joke in regards to correspondence with their applicants. Although, I heard things are getting better.

There's actually other threads that kinda deals with this you might want to check those out.

Hey, I don't know how things are going this year in regards to interview. But two years ago, I got an interview invite in May. Good luck. Stay on top of your application and tell them you're very interested in the school.

have any of you received any recent interview from howard?? I live 20 min from their campus? why don't they at least interview me?

Hey guys, I too have been waiting for it seems like forever. The application was sent no later than the beginning of NOVEMBER! Here's what they told me in an email:

"Due to the large volume of applications, if we are not able to invite you to the College of Medicine for an interview, you will receive no further correspondence from our office regarding interim status.

Please do not contact the Office of Admissions to request an interview.
Applicants who have completed the application process, and who have not received an invitation to interview by May 15 should receive final written notification via US mail in mid-June."

Hmmmmmmm. Either I should take that as a rejection, or maybe look think positive until May 15th. Anyway,......

I'm still waiting, and I REFUSE to give up hope! But I applied in Nov, and was complete the first week of Jan, so I guess I haven't been waiting as long as I could be. I REALLLLLLLYYYY want to go to HU for a number of reasons. I hear they can interview very late so even if it's just a rumor I'm going to run with it!

i know a guy who is a second year student at howard..he said that 30% of their applicants got accepted during the week before classes started. can you believe that? i didn't even get interview from howard which is painful cause i only half hour away from their campus and my avg. is better than the school's avg...granted that i'm not african american, but i have been sending them letters to show that i'm really interested.

Yep...still. I heard the same things and actually know someone who was accepted the week before and had to move from NJ to DC in like 4 days. I'm in DC now, so I'll just need to find an appartment that's less expensive (or buy a house which is what I really want to do).

I don't know of anything about previous correspondence with applicants...but I applied this year and was complete in Sept. I was interview 2nd week in Dec and recieved an acceptance right before Christmas. I have had good correspondence, even recently recieving a phone call from my assigned faculty advisor. It seems as if the school doesn't get a lot of respect, so I would be willing to be there is a great deal of wait list movement...

Thanks OK w/ me...I respect them...I'd 😍 them if I can go there in July 😀

Early on in the application cycle I received an email from Howard stating the following:

We have received your secondary application and secondary application fee. Unfortunately, due to the crush of mail and email, we are unable to verify receipt of recommendations. We will verify receipt of recommendations only if you are invited for an interview.

But if there is some problem and my recommendations aren't received or are misplaced, I wouldn't be called in for an interview, and therefor not notified that my recommendations weren't received. Anyone see the logic (or lack thereof)?

You friend is exaggerating a bit. Less than five students get accepted the week before class starts. About 30% get accepted after the May 15th date is more realistic. Your higher than their averages mean nothing at Howard. If you are a good fit for the class and your numbers are within their range, you have a good chance of acceptance. Plenty of people with high numbers get rejected from Howard because they just won't fit. This has little to do with race or ethnicity and more to do with how you act on the interview.

Ditto njbmd. I've been offered an acceptance to Howard and I think it was probably my interview that helped me the most. I'm Chinese BTW 🙂
