I have 5. I may not do all.

Just remember that if you get your apps completed before OCt 15...your are ahead of all the people waiting on their MCAT scores.

GOBUCKY GO!!!

3 more to go...and i've done nothing all summer.

That has been my consolation 😳

Just Pritzker. Darn Pritzker and their "Please describe your system of values and influences" crap that I can't recycle from any of my other secondaries. grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Yup, that's one of mine too. And I've been sitting on it since mid-July. 👍

Who knows whether or not I'll ever get around to actualy doing it at this point.

One left! Plus that handwritten essay for VCU. What will I ever do without secondaries??? Oh that's right, obsess over mail/email or lack thereof!

1 more to go! stanford is all i have left, and i'm going to do it cause it's one of my top choices. i also did nothing all summer and should have had all this already taken care of, but i'm a big slacker. it's so shi**y too, cause i want a break, but now i have to start preparing for interviews. i already have one oct. 4th, so i don't get to take any time off. i just want a small break from med school stuff so i can concentrate on work and school, but oh well. med school stuff is way more important than anything else at this point anyway, so i guess it's okay.

good luck to everyone battling with those last few secondaries!

and yes, let's keep in mind we're still okay, because august mcaters haven't been able to do much of anything yet.

I wish I could say I only have 2 or 3 left. But I have around TEN!!! So don't feel so bad...I just need to sit down one weekend and crank them all out...

Someone else just HAS to have that many left...anyone? 😕

Count me in... I'm still waiting to see if I'll be recommended by my pre-med committee (but, then again, I didn't expect to be applying this year). 🙂
Most of my secondaries seem pretty easy (i.e. no essays or short essays).

It feels oh so good to get that one done! Good luck finishing them. And dont worry... a girl I know said that she hasnt submitted AMCAS yet :0/

I've got a whole bunch to work on right now. I've had some since mid-August. I've been procrastinating/slacking since my LORs haven't been ready. But now that they're be ready in the next week or so, I've gotta get to work. :scared:

Did anyone/everyone get reminder cards from Pritzker? I got their secondary about a month ago and today I got a little postcard in the mail thanking me for applying and reminding me to do the secondary. I'm assuming this is standard procedure but I haven't heard anything about it so I thought I'd ask.

yea i stil have a few more to do. I'm making the end of next week my official due date. after that i have something i need to take care of, which will make doing secondaries an impossibility.

Sooo, I definitely am an August MCAT test taker, and I completed all of my secondaries about 2 weeks ago. The disadvantage doesn't come in August examinees having to wait on secondaries, but having to wait on interviews. Most schools won't make a final decision on the applicant until the MCAT score is reported. From the schools I have called, though, my secondaries have already been reviewed (ie. everything rests on my MCAT score....good or bad?). I'm pulling for at least a mid-30s MCAT score.

I just heard from Harvard like a week and a half ago and they said don't submit anything until I receive some packet of information. Plus, I haven't heard from UCSF but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

I've finished 10 of them and I'm only complete at 4 of them. The rest of the schools won't file my LOR. RRggghh, I want to hear from them so bad!

Yeah, I have a few left. I got through Pritzker, though. AND after all those mind numbingly stupid essays, I got my first rejection today -- from PRITZKER. There is no place I hate more right now than Pritzker. 😡

i received one of those cards from Pritzker - my mom told me something from a med school in chicago had come for me and i got real excited. then i saw it was just telling me to complete the secondary which i submitted a couple weeks ago. bummer. guess ill keep waiting.

yeah pritzker is tough man, n also the pitt one about some ethical or moral dilemma you had (and theyre like please dont address cheating in an academic setting like id talk about that anyway) thats mad hard, and they say they dont believe you havent had one. blaaaahhh

Yep, I got three to go.. I am going to try to get them done by the end of next week. My computer has been down and that has made it harder. August's MCAT takers scores have not come out, and some of them will get in, so it is late but not over.

I'm still debating whether I'm going to send Columbia, I've been sitting on it for months. A couple of other schools I just said screw it, I'm not doin em. Then I decided to apply to a couple DO programs, so I just submitted my AACOMAS yesterday...more secondaries are on the way 👎

I might be STARTING on secondaries soon.

The school I applied Early Decision at started making acceptance calls yesterday and I didn't get a call 🙁

Granted they didn't 'reject' me yet, but I'm getting nervous...

My list if U of MN rejects me:

Mayo
U of MN - Duluth
Harvard
Johns Hopkins
(and I will hopefully still be in the U of MN regular pool)

As I recall, your stats are great, but if I were you, I would consider adding a couple more mid-tier schools. If you don't get ED at U of MN, you stand a risk of becoming a reapplicant. Why not... MCW and UWisconsin? Or add a couple Chicago schools? I applied at UIowa, which looks like neat school and is in the area, too.

The problem is, Mayo and Duluth have tiny class sizes. Harvard and Johns Hopkins get gazillions of awesome applicants. You stand >50% at Duluth and Twin Cities as a regular pool candidate, but that still leaves you at, say, 20% chance of rejection. I wouldn't risk it, unless you don't mind waiting a year.

But you'll probably get that call today! 👍 for good luck!

I knew I would get a comment based on my list (as I well should!)

Basically it boils down to the fact that my wife will be at the U of MN through 2006 and I don't want us to have to live apart. I also don't want to do the dartboard approach, potentially having to uproot my small family to another state. I guess my list was built around the logic that I want to either stay REALLY close to home or possibly move for a top-top tier school. People can argue who the top schools really are, but I don't really care what others think. I don't want to wait a year, but if I have to, so be it.

Thanks for the good luck :luck:

Me too. w00t!! Good luck, mister Nelsen.

Hiya Liver. Glad to see that you're almost done. I had 30 schools, 28 secondaries, decided not to finish four secondaries....I feel your pain. When is UPitt???

I had 30 schools, too. Minus Mayo (still waiting...). Minus Rosalind Franklin/Finch/CMS (too many names) and minus UIC (can't meet requirements). Everything but Yale done, and Yale's an easy one. I think I've hit the secondaries "wall."

UPitt is 10/12, UMichigan 2/11. I've been complete for a couple weeks at about 8 schools, so I should hear something soon from them; the rest will be a few more weeks at least, I should think. Looks like you're making some serious headway - great work.

Yeah, I withdrew from Finch too. Decided against Georgetown (too expensive), OHSU (hideous for out of staters - can you believe MS3/4 tuition of $40K??? 😱 ), and USUHS (didn't want to go into the military after all. Been there, done that).

I'm still waiting to hear from lotsa schools, though I think I already know which ones are going to reject me. Still, it isn't over until it's over as several threads on SDN will attest.

What's your Numero Uno choice?

I still have 3 left to do (bostun U, Georgetown, and Mt. Sinai). Unfortunately i just don't have the money to finish them up right now....dont know if i ever will. There is nothing at all redeeming about this process.

It's interesting that this process really is a two-way street. The schools narrow their field of candidates using interviews, but the applicants also narrow their list of schools. I'm waiting to pick up on the "feel" of schools that I interview at.
It's a complex question. At this moment, I would have to say Mayo for midwestern schools (close to sons' grandparents, low cost, small class size), Harvard for top-tier (2 Harvard degrees!?!, I heart Cambridge), and VCU (keep house, reasonable cost, comfortable with school and program) over anything else. But, for all you adcoms our there reading this board, I can still be tempted by full scholarships.

So far, my favorite part has been getting interviews. I didn't realize how big the ego boost would be that comes with realizing this anonymous group of people have studied the minutiae of my life and still want to talk to me.

As can I. Or by acceptance to a TX school whose tuition is so cheap as to almost be a scholarship. 😉

I'd love to stay home (TX) but am willing to dip my toe into other waters. Heck, I'm headed to EVMS for an interview in October, and I have FANTASTIC memories of the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area. Also, Pitt intrigues me to no end. Let's hope that they see fit to interview me soon.

Absolutely. On the flip side, the "pre-interview hold" category is frustrating. In a strange way, I'd rather a clean reject or invite-for-interview decision at this point.....though in all honesty, I have NO place to complain. KLESHH and all that.

uh... i have chicago left. but its been sitting in the same state for about a month, so i dont know if its ever going to get finished.

Yeah, I'm in the same situation with Chicago. It just doesn't seem worth all of that work for me.

I have about 13 to finish. But anyway I took MCAT in august so no rush. Will send them out before october 1st. Can't believe, I applied to 13 MD schools and got 12 secondaries without MCAT scores ?? Only Howard left 🙂 Out of 7 DO schools, I got 5 before MCAT. Looks weired to me. I think none of the schools screen for MCAT. Or just my schools.

i think alot of schools dont screen (extra loot for dem fat pockets) for 2ndary. whats the deal w harvards freakin 2ndary anyone know? i got like 2 emails sayin its comin in the mail but no dice. then their deadlines the 15th of nov or something, watch they prolly send it to me 14th nov or something and are like haha creative way of tellin me to f*ck off

Hey there,
I have been sitting on the Columbia application for a while too. I guess it's been about two weeks with honest effort trying to get it done, but no matter how many attemtps I have made so far, I always end up hating my essays!!!
For some reason, this application doesn't like me 🙁
