Hi everyone,

I am writing NBDE for the 2nd time this October. I have a week old at home and i find it so difficult to study..I try to study when my little one naps or while feeding her..but i hardly get to do much. I have to do all the work around the house too incl. cooking, cleaning, laundry and what not...when I do get some free time there will be visitors....

Is anyone in the same boat as me? How do you manage your time? It is a real challenge for me but it will be comforting to know that others have done it...

thanks....

u r not alone. i too have a kid whos almost 3 yrs old. so i know how difficult it is 2 study, iam jus meeting ends even ive my inlaws with me now so very difficult in preparing.planning 2 take part 1 in oct how abt u?

hi,
i dunt have kids though, but hav a lot of work to do while i study to retake the secone time, but i told my hubby to help out with cleaning n laudry after work so that i ahv more time.
talk to your hubby, he could help u with laundry, cleaning on the weekend, he has to do it for you,
and he should take care of the baby on his own on the weekend so that u get time to study, he has to make some sacrifice too, moreover you could wait for a few months until the baby is older n then send him to daycare for a few hours n make the most of it in those hours,i am just trying to help out, i hope you get more time to study......take care

Hi,
U r not alone..I am a mom of 8month old.I know it is difficult, but u know babies tend to sleep a lot the first few months so take advantage of that..and take watever exams now rather late coz once they start walikng its going to behard.
and as our frd said husbands shd help too ...my husband would take care of the baby when he comes home frm office...so i think u will be fine ..dont worry...i studied for part 2 looking after my little brat 🙂
I cleared as well so go ahead give ur best.

You will be ok. Try to get as much help as you can-with chores, without feeling guilty. Mine is almost 3, and I am doing it,too. She gives me all the strength that I need. Good luck to you.
sincerely

Thanks everyone.....

You are right, vita-dent..when i look at my little girl, i know i have to do my best so that she can one day look at me and say, "Mummy, I'm proud of you" ..
Thanks 'drchai' and 'godbless' for ur tips..ru both in school now?
chinnu, my exam is on Oct 19th.

i have a toddler too at home.i know its very hard to do it with kids plus the house work and the guests.i so get it wat u girls r trying to say ,sometimes it becomes overwhelming.i am taking my exam in sep.really glad to know there r other moms on sdn trying to get thru too.good luck 😍 `

Hi!Belive me I know it is hard. When I was studing for my exams both my kids were under 3 years old.The only time I had was when they had short nap or after they went to bed at night. All you have to do use your little time efficient, try focus. My husbad helped me on weekends by taking kids to the park or short trips so I could syudy a little bit more.As hard as it sounds stay focus and you do fine.As of me I did.I am in school right know and let me tell you it is even harder ,I spend most of my time in school and I still have to study at home and I am still mam although I don't see my kids for whole day.So study hard but enjoy evrey moment with your baby and trust me every thing is going to find a right time and place in your life.Belive 🙂

Hi dr internationa,
Iam in the same boat .I too have a 8 week old ,am trying to juggle between my studies and tending to babys needs. its hard for sure ,but not impossible. When you see that smile on your babys face, am sure, everything will seem worthwhile.Just hang in there my friend.Just dont give up
We all will succeed . 👍 👍 🙂

i've 2 and half years old child too and expecting my second baby by the end of october, so im studying part 1 these days because this may be may last chance so i will have the test for the second time, because i scored only 79 in my first attempt 4 years ago, i just started studying like 2 weeks ago, i know it isn't easy to finish in this short time, but a score of 79 will not land me any where anyway, for me i play video tapes for my child most of the time and he enjoys it while im studying, besides when my husband comes back from his work he takes him out when there's a chance and on week edns too, so for you moms who have toddlers, children shows are really helpful and work very well on them, best of luck to all of us.

hi friends even iam in same situation my son is 12months old. he wont sleep much during day time. iam not able to concentrate much. iam not able to study much.iam planning to take in nov. iam really disperated frustated .iam really tired with kitchen work since last 3weeks we have friends and relatives are visting, iam really tired iam not able to concentrate iam scared please give me some suggestion how to manage studies and taking care of my son give me some tips my husband dont like to put in day care, thanks bye

hi all mommies ,

Why not start a moms club.where we can share our common problems post suggestions about how to study while looking after kids .Am sure we all mothers will have something to share like how we are coping, what problems we face. And the have-done-it moms can give us valuable tips . 🙂

Cheers 👍
Neeru

great idea, neeru........

have-done-it moms......please share your tips with us!

im writing this with my baby in my arms...so i guess my tip would be to multitask! check your mails while feeding baby..try to remember what you learned while cooking, changing diapers etc.dont forget to take breaks too...i set aside 'free' time to give complete attention to my baby and play with her..

I do the same ,while babys asleep I try catching up with studies.I check mails with baby in arms.I would suggest using a baby carrier like baby bjorn ,thats what am using or a sling. It makes life really easier .My baby goes to sleep in like 5 min. when am using it. 👍
Good going dr internationa. .. today i went to 2 month vaccination for my baby.he was a bit fussy after the shots but when I gave him infant tylenol ,he was just fine.my suggestion for you when your babys is getting shots ,tynelol 3 -4 times in a day and give warm bath and feed him before he /she gets really hungry
Keep up the good work Moms and someday our babies will be proud of us

Cheers

Neeru 👍 👍

hey guys......now my motto is

'Its hard to study but study hard.....🙂

drs.. neeru. razan, el..walnut..i think its important to finish question papers first..when i took nbde for the first time 75% of the questions were from past papers...i was foolish to not to give importance to that then..or else i wd not have had to write now 🙁
im doing papers from 1978 to 2004...let me know if anyone is interested...its tough to do papers with a baby..i do it in parts..10 questions when my baby is feeding, 10 when she is playing on her tummy, 20 when she is sleeping..etc..

walnut..u took the words right out of my mouth!! THE GUILT SO KILLS YOU!! but in the end it will be all worth it..u'll see!

Hi to all the moms.
I have a 14 years old and a 4 years old.Big gap!! I know.
When my older one was a baby I was on dentla school, but, back a t home it was much easier with all my family around helping me, even thought He was with me while I was studying, sometimes falling aslep underneath the big table where I used to study. When he was like 2 years old he used to know a lot of the medical and dental terms, and he was always catching up something very fun!!
It was one of my biggest pride to hve him with me trough all that time!! he was even helping me at he office, when I was practicing, he was very invloved and I know he is very proud of me.
Now we had to move to the U.S and I also have the little girl. Some day he will be proud of me too, and my son can not wait to see me sucseed again. They are the reason for any effort and the power for every strugle.

Keep it up!! when you all get accepted, how are you planning to do wit your children, childcare, daycare?? will you move close to the school you get into??
Are you all International Dentists?

good trend.🙂

Hi mommies
I have a good question, please give me your imput on it:
I was on an interview for an advance standing a couple of months ago and I mentioned about having a child, which at the time I thought it was a good ideea since I considered important to be sincere about myself and I also considered it is actualy a strength to manage both family and career and my results wich are decent prove I can handle both, but now, I am starting to wonder and be kind of worried if it really was such a good ideea. I mean my interview is over now so it really does not matter anymore as far as that, but I wanted to know what other people think and maybe learn and be smarter about presenting myself in the future.
thanks in advance for your answers,
vita-dent

hi dhanya,
dunt feel so frustated, i know it is ahrd, but if your child doesnt sleep during the day, then what u could do is to study at night, sleep during the day while trying to put him to sleep, kids can be traine don the sleeping pattern, consult your paeditrist, discourage friends n relatives, let your husband tell people his wife is studying n dunt need distractions, plus he needs to help you with house chores if he doesnt want the baby to go to day care, also try to convice him to send the baby to daycare only for 4 hrs a day, it wunt harm the child n will giv u time to study, in either case he should take care of the baby when he comes back from work, if possible tell him to take some days off n take care of the baby if he has paid vacations and you can study, or ask your mom or motherin law to come over n baby sit for 2 months while u study.........i hope u find somthing helpful, all the best, dunt giv up.......
also if u know another mom who wants to study, what you guys could do is to baby sit the other kid too while babysitting own child for 4 hrs so that the other mom can study n then take turns like this, so try to find somone who is in the same boat to baby sit for you so that u can baby sit for her too.........

'hi,
hi,
i am of the perosnal opinion that you shouldnt mention in the interview that u have a small baby at home coz they know tha tif they take you ,you qunt be able to giv that much time to studies like any other regular student.or if you mention to them coz u wanna be honest abt it, tell them you hav your mom or mother in law or nanny living with you who takes care of the baby. coz at the end of the day they might appreciate your honesty but they want people who can giv more time to studies n hav fewer distractions...........just my point of view, i hope it doesnt offend anyone, all the best to all the moms

hi all mommies
just feels wonderful to hear about all the hard work that u do in bringing up the babies and studying for the exams. I just got into the Advanced standing program. I was wondering if its a good idea to plan to have kids while in dental school. I dont know if I can manage it or not. I really need some feedback about this. I am already 30, and we had decided not to have kids till I finish my course, but I still want to give this a second thought.🙂

hi sujata,
i think this is the best itme you u to study if u wanna do it with a baby coz right now your baby's needs r very limited, it will change when the baby starts crawling, walking, talking n wud want more attention......so make the most of your time, study NOW, this is th ebest time to study with the baby ,but at the same time do not ignore the baby's needs, have your hubby help you with the baby when he comes back form work and relaxes for a few mins, and have him help you with house chores, he can clean up the house on weekends, cookng can be more organised and shudnt take much time, and dunt be in a hurry to tak rthe exam in 2 months, coz retaking is more depressing, beleive me, so try to take it in dec end, befor ethe pattern cheanges if you think u r good to go, otherwise take it in the beginning of next yr and you can still apply to many schools, just to let u know boston has deadline in feb, nyu in march, and manyother east coast schools hav it in feb, otherwise even if u go to school next yr, at least u wud hav to score ready in your hand to apply early next yr in july, early application is good always......so all the best

hi all the mommies,
i just thought wud giv some suggestions here, though i dunt hav a baby.....might be useful to somone
you guys could couple up with eachother if living in the same area or find some other student mommy in your area, so you can get together, and one perosn can babysit both the babies while the other mommy studies for a few hours, this way you wud get time to study and get company to share similar feelings too.
also kitchen chores shouldnt be a pain, if you guys cook for the rest of the week on weekend, make 5 dishes in good big quatity, put 2 in fridge ,other 2 in refrigerator.......wheneve rit is time to eat ,just take it out n microwave it, and ready to eat, only need ot make rice or bread........and when u make rice or bread, make it for 2 days together, beleiv eme food tastes good n remains fresh........also on weekend tak ehewlp form hubbies, who wud be reluctant initially but should come around looking at your efforts.......
vacuuming should be done only on weekends by hubbies clearly
for dishes, try to use disposables for as much as u can, until the exam ,wud save a lot of time n u hav to do only the big dishes then unitl the exam...........
encourage no guests at home, dunt be rude but make it clear indirectly that u r so busy, no time........
try to hav your mom or mother in law come n help here for 2 months while u go on a crash course to study.........
i hope somtihng can be useful to somone.............all th ebest to all the mommies

hi shradha,
i am in the same boat as you, i am gonig to be 29 soon, and just got in a program, and my hubby doesnt want us to hav kids unitl i graduate, so i wiud be 31 when i do......but i too wonder if it is possible to hav a baby while in school?
can anyone tell how much maternity leave does one get while in school?????

Just my humble oppinion,
having a first baby it is tough! I mean people do it all the time, and everyone goes thru it and at the end of the day it is rewarding in itself, but it is not easy. On the other hand if there is any chance to have your mom live with you and take care of the baby, I would go for it. ....but that's just me.
Anyway, what nobody tells you is how often kids get colds, ear infections....this should not scare you, just wanted to point out there are things you can plan and things you cannot plan for....but I am sure if you had the strength to get into a dental program you have the ability to deal with them.....

iam so glad to see that iam not the only mom here!! i have a 5mons old n iam all alone here with my hubby offering little help! its SSSSSSOOO HARD FOR ME TO STUDY! my daughter doesnt take formula nor she takes bottle so i am exclusively breast feeding! sometimes i cry cause i get so frustrated! i have been a position holder in my class. Was an A lister always n Now i see my books laughing at me n making fun of me! i have been out of practice for more than a year now cause iam a HOUSE WIFE NOW so much so that my hubby doesnt believe that i was ever a DOCTOR!!!!

I want to give my part 1 feb next year. will i able to do that? my stratgy is just decks n test books? any "tip or todka" will be appreciated! i need some pat on da back!

listen is any one in the bay area here? i will appreciate a study partner

any mom from bay area studying for part 1? i welcome her for studying together
