Just wondering what yall's thoughts were on it. I'm considering it for next semester, but dont know if i'll be able to get in it (only 1 section of 20 spots)

Six hours a week of lab doesn't sound too fun.

But then again, i'm sure it'll benefit me for med school.

I did take it in undergrad, and though you are correct in assuming that it will be time consuming and difficult, it is one of the most fulfilling classes you will take! It is a great MCAT prep if you haven't taken that already, and it is also a prep for physiology, cell biology, pathology, etc. etc. I can't say enough about it -- please folks, don't be afraid of using microscopes. Microscopes are your friends; you can't be a doctor without them (well, I guess you technically could, but you know what I mean). Medicine happens as much or even more-so at the microscopic level than the macroscopic. Yes, take this course if you can; depending on how it is managed, I am sure you won't regret it!

Hi there,
I took histology as an undergraduate and aced Microanatomy and Pathology as a medical student. Histology was one of the most interesting courses that I took as an undergraduate and I was an Analytical Chem major. It is loads of work but once you get the hang of how to look at tissues, it was awesome. As a surgeon today, I review many of my path slides especially in my breast cancer patients. This is a great course and tremendously helpful for medical school.

I'm actually taking it now, only as a post-bac. I figured it was as good class to take b/c it's not as intensive as physiology, but the focus still lies on body tissues. Right now it is a nice warm of an refresher for me as I apply.

Sorry about the long lab though, mine is only 3 hours a week, so that helps me like the class too.

Histo was one of the best and most pratical courses I took as an undergrad. It was also one of the most demanding. Not only do you learn how different cells/tissues are structured you also learn about cell and organ physiology.

I'm taking it right now! It's pretty cool, but lots of stuff to know! I bet it will be extremely helpful to have before med school so you can concentrate on your other classes and at least most of the histo stuff will not be brand new.

I took histo my Sophmore year, not the most interesting class....maybe 'cause the prof was boring. It's a lot of memorization...good practice for med school. But I didn't really find it interesting, it was basically knowing the what's without the why's.
