I was interviewed and received a letter saying they haven't made a decision and they would like me to retake the April MCAT. Once they receive my score then they will make a decision. But the letter said they were very impressed with me but I needed a higher MCAT score.
So there is always hope.
That's interesting; I never knew schools would actually ask you to do that. Seems like since they're always talking about how there are so many qualified applicants, they'd just pick someone else instead. Nice to know there are a few schools that actually care that much.
I think I'm going to retake the April MCAT, but it's not so much to get off the waitlist as it is to prepare in case I decide to reapply next year. I scored well overall, but I have a feeling that my 9 in the physical sciences put me below the cutoff at certain schools. On top of that, I submitted my AMCAS fairly late, then had to spend 6 more weeks getting the premed committee to write my LoR. It definitely hasn't been the optimal process for me.
I'm confident that I will do better this time around because I've spent the past 8 months teaching and tutoring MCAT prep for Kaplan, and with minimal studying I know I could kill that test.
🙂 But I have to say, from what I've heard it sounds like there isn't much to lose from retaking. It varies from school to school, but I've heard a lot of schools either average the scores or take the best performance in each section. Besides, if you're doing it to get off the waitlist, and you score worse the second time, you just don't report the new set of scores to the school.
