About to start new attending job. Will have inpatients/consults. what apps have you found helpful. I am trying to decide if that would be more efficient than carrying around index cards since i will be buying an ipad anyway.

i don't have one but i've heard of programs giving every resident an ipad. but it's usually for using the actual EMR through the hospital's wi-fi. the residents can look up things and put in orders during rounds or if they can't find a jetson. those jetsons are supposed to be for nurses and PCTs at my program. does your job have wifi with the ability for you to log in to the EMR with an electronic device? otherwise, don't know anything about patient tracking apps.

I've been using it for medicine rounds. I use an app called upad, which lets you use a pdf as a template and use a stylus to write in labs on a lab tree. I find it easier than carrying around cards or patient print outs. I can get on our EMR on it too, checking for new results and putting in orders. It's alot easier than finding an open computer. The stylus works ok... my bad penmanship is only amplified though. Lots of nice calculator programs and such too. It's nice, but I don't think it would be worth it without EMR access
