Out of curiosity, is there anyone out there with a 29/30 MCAT score with a low verbal score (7 or 8) getting interviews or any acceptances?

That's what I'd like to know.

I'm a 29 w/ 4 interviews but VR>8.

Scored a 29Q, 10PS, 11V, 8BS ....applied to 16 schools...denied from 6 so far, no interview invites...3.2 GPA

Me....5 interviews so far, 1 acceptance.

But then again, I'm from Texas, so that helps.

29R ---- I've had 7 interviews and 2 acceptances, so far. It's possible!

just got invited for my first interview, but still waiting on the other 7 schools. 29N

I am a little new, what is the difference between a 29R and a 29Q

Ahh I get it now

VR 9 BS 10 PS 10 WS R = 29R
I had one interview in the beginning of October, but haven't heard from anyone else. Applied to 15 schools.

29S Three interview offers and an acceptance....Withdrew apps from other schools before the interviews!

Friend of mine with a 28 was just accepted.

29Q about a dozen interviews and 2 acceptances

24P (9,6,9) with 3 interview offers. Keep your head up OP, I am sure they are coming😀

27 with 2 interviews... Best Wishes to all...

Ok, that's too low for a MD acceptance. Do have an extremely high GPA or something?

Is that explaination being D.O.?

I imagine there is another possible explaination .... but I'm not going to be the one to mention it.
You guessed it too? Yep, the children of doctors ie legacy admits, get ALL the dam breaks!

A friend of mine with slightly less than a 30 on the MCAT recently got and attended an interview, and will most likely receive an acceptance call tomorrow! 🙂

Nope I am international student and the closest to physician in my family is Dentist. So I guess they saw past the MCAT scores when they decided to invite me.🙂
P.S: GPA is above a 3.8 and so that counted for something

You have nothing to complain about LifetimeDoc...you got a 33!!! That's amazing!=)

Yo Rob...we got the same score! It is so a borderline score...not quite a 30, but still not bad...grrr. Maybe our 29's kept us out of EVMS? And I really think with 29...you have to have a decently good gpa to balance it out...and apply to a lot of schools as early as possible.

I wasn't talking about me. I'm talking about one of my friends at school who got less than a 30, already had an interview, and is expecting a call tomorrow about a decision. I have no interviews yet. 🙁

From where out of curiosity? I was under the impression it was harder for internation students to get in.

So who are you to determine the benchmarks for acceptance?

I smell a hater.

I smell someone who doesn't look at statistics. Sure it isn't all about numbers but there are some things that would normally kill an application outright, a 24 MCAT is one of those for most people.

Well since I was accepted MD/PhD with under a 30 in 2000, I guess that makes 2 of us!

But you obviously missed the point I was alluding to. I'm certain there are more legacy admissons with low MCAT's than URM admissions!

what schools did you apply to?

You'll love UVM...it's a nice school with a good campus...go check out Church street after your interview! Omg...Chuck...that's the cutest pic!

I have a 29P and have had 2 interviews and 2 acceptances.

wassap oschemi. naija in tha house![/QUOTE]

good to see u fellow naijas doing very well.👍 hopefully I will hear good news very soon too.

i had a 27 (all 9s), 3.8gpa, excellent research and ECs plus a wonderful personal statement (according to jeff). sent secondaries to three allo schools...got into 1 D.O. and Jeff. interview invite for vanderbilt and have withdrawn from the rest.

wassap oschemi. naija in tha house!

Hey wassup, I am also a Naija girl and hoping to get into CCLCM which is my top choice. Congrats to both of you and it is nice to see Nigerians doing very well in this process

I think a well-balanced 27-29 could be good enough to earn interview/acceptance as long as your GPA and ECs are strong.

1path- why are you "certain" there are more legacy admits than URM admits?
Granted, I only have my anecdotal experience to draw from but I got flat out rejected, pre-secondary from my "legacy" school where my dad went for undergrad, med school and continues to give money. I never expected the legacy issue to give me a real boost just an extra bonus point if it came down to comparing me with someone identical to me without legacy.
And all of my friends with physician parents (4ppl) have also been denied in that department.

30P here ... but High V score. 11v, 10b, 9phy.

Applied to 12 schools, 3 rejections (1 instate, cclm), 3 interviews (all in state), 1 withdrawl, and 5 no-shows (as of yet)

but then again I'm an Ohio boy ... with 7 allopathic schools in state (including cclm)

Go Bucks.

I agree Jainraisig...your legacy status won't help if you're completely unqualified for the school...I don't believe in that crap

1path- why are you "certain" there are more legacy admits than URM admits?.
I should have specified legacy with one or more parents who are physicians/scientists and/or coming from a "physician family". Therefore, I think your post is moot unless one of your parents is called "Dr". Med schools these days are admitting an average of 10 blacks per school and there are many, many med schools that admit far less than that. So yeah, I'm certain that there are more legacy admits as I've defined it above with marginal scores than URM students.
And all of my friends with physician parents (4ppl) have also been denied in that department.
You need to give more info to be able to argue this point. What were their MCATS, GPA's, EC's,? How many times have they applied and to which schools?

Sure it isn't all about numbers but there are some things that would normally kill an application outright, a 24 MCAT is one of those for most people.
Not necessarily. A 24 is an average MCAT score, not so terrible that it will automatically kill an application. You guys really focus way too much on the numbers when you need to be focusing on the whole big picture. Medical schools could fill their ranks with high-stat people, but they don't. The average MCAT for allopathic school matriculants is only a 30. For those of you who care so much about stats, that should tell you something.

Since Oschemi brought it up, my program (CCLCM) does not have minimum MCAT cutoffs. If someone has an average MCAT score, but they have excellent research experience and other things that the admissions committee cares about, the program will consider them. I have classmates who scored in the mid-twenties on the MCAT and also classmates who scored 40+, along with everything in between. I don't know what kind of research and other ECs Oschemi has, but I'm willing to bet that they're stellar.

Okay people, there is much talk of multiple interview invitations and acceptances.

Can we please be a little more specific? Could you list some of the schools to which you interviewed? This would help tremendously your anxious colleagues who began this thread. Knowledge of when you were complete would be ideal. Your contributions are invaluable.
