My dream school is Rutgers dental school because of the relatively lower in-state tuition costs and I would like to stay close to home. I'm curious to know if anyone with similar undergraduate stats have gotten in. I'm lost as to how to get admitted with my poor stats.

Background:

- Graduated last May (2014) with a degree in Public Health from a reputable Big Ten school.
- Cumulative GPA: 2.9 GPA
- I need to fulfill 2 pre-requisites - Orgo II, Orgo I and II labs, Physics I & II w/ associated labs

My grades in the sciences:

Semester 1:
Biology 1: B
Chem 1: Withdrawal

Semester 2:
Biology 2: C+
Stat 100: B-

Semester 3:
Chem1: B+
Chem Lab: A-

Semester 4:
Chem2: C+
Chem2 lab: B+
Molecular Bio: C+
Physiology: C+
Physiology lab: B

Semester 5:
Orgo1: D
Genetics: D

You'll need to do well in the remaining prereqs and kill your DAT. I'd also recommend taking more sciences or retaking ones you got Cs in if possible. It'll be tough but not impossible.

You're going to need to retake Orgo, all schools require a C or higher. I wouldn't recommend applying now, your grades seem to follow a downward trend. I would finish your prereqs with high marks and would highly recommend enrolling in Rutger's Dental Scholar's Master's program (http://njms.rutgers.edu/gsbs/prospective_students/info/masters_dentsch_interest.htm)

Work really hard to get at least a 3.8 GPA in that master's program and apply, you'll have a much better chance of getting in.

You need to retake those Ds. You will need to 3.5+ a post bac or masters and get a 22+ on the DAT to solidify that upward trend.
