My wife has applied at MUSC and from what I've been reading for the last couple of months her statistics look competitive but her volunteer hours have me worried. Her numbers are as follows:
OA GPA3.5
PreReq GPA3.75
New GRE 154 verbal and 158 Quantitative 4.0 writing
4.0 last 60 credit hours
41 hours volunteering (General PT clinic 25, Pediatric PT 8, and sports PT 8)

Any and all input is greatly appreciated. I'm a few years behind her myself and also going into Med School as a career change. Really excited about her getting accepted but also a little bit jealous. Thanks
:luck:

" Really excited about her getting accepted"

has she already been accepted by MUSC? because if she is, then I don't know why you are worried about her observation hours.... they don't matter once you're accepted and committed to that school

No we are still waiting and I guess I should have wrote "I'll be really excited IF she gets accepted." The waiting game for us is a nail biter for sure.

Most schools want to see applicants have at least 100 hours and at least one experience in an in-patient setting. Your wife has varied settings but they seem as though they may be just different types of out patient positions. The reason why they ask for 100 hours is so that they feel you have had enough experience in the field (in most of its sub-specialists) and truly want to be a PT.

That being said, I do not know what the requirements are for MUSC, nor if Rey disregard applications if they do my fulfill the requirements.

Their minimum is 40 hours and so she barely has that covered. If she doesn't get accepted this go round she will have around 150-200 going into early application. We are in our 30's and would like to get into school and get it finished as soon as possible so if she were to get accepted this year that would be excellent.

Very competitive, but need some more volunteer hours and she will have a good chance of getting in somewhere.

Ok, well that's good. The programs I applied to required 100 and I only really had 130, so I wasn't much over the minimum either and I got accepted. I'm a nontrad too, so I understand the balance of juggling work, prereqs, applying, etc. It can be stressful. Good luck to her and good luck to you when you're ready to apply!! 🙂

I am a non traditional student as well as was accepted to MUSC early decision. My overall gpa was lower than hers (due to being irresponsible during my younger college years!) but I have about the same prereq/science GPA. I did really well ever since I decided to go to DPT school. I did have 90 oberservation hours and some great recommendations.

Best of luck to her!!! Are you guys from South Carolina? Id love to know if she gets in. I know pretty much nothing about the area besides one visit to the school and Charleston (I am from Maryland) and am very much looking forward to finding other students who will be attending the program!

We are currently in Lexington/Columbia SC area. We have a family house in Charleston (and my wife is a life long resident of SC) so MUSC was a primary choice. I met my wife in 2000 in Charleston while I was in the Navy and in 2002 we moved to Colorado. We moved back to SC to finish school since my wife's family lives here and are a great help with everything involved top to bottom with going back to school. If you have any questions what so ever about Charleston or SC in general send them our way we'd be more than happy to try and answer them. Hopefully my wife will be in your class. Nothing makes you feel more comfortable about going into a different environment than going into it with somebody you are acquainted with.

I definitely agree. Please let me know what happens! I loved Charleston when I visited but am trying to get a better feel for what the MUSC environment is.

I am a current 3rd year student at MUSC. Let me know if you have any specific questions!

Where did you do your undergrad and if you don't mind me asking how were your numbers when you were accepted?

I was accepted 3 years ago...so I'm sure things have changed.
Undergrad: UNC-Chapel Hill (graduated in 3 years, completed all my prereqs in 2 years)
GRE: 1250
Overall GPA: 3.27
Prereq GPA: 3.0 - low...I think they took into account the fact I took them in such a short amount of time
Volunteer Hours: 120+
Accepted: Duke, Elon, MUSC, ODU

Well we found out today that she was wait listed. The e-mail stated that they will try to notify her as quickly as possible if she is accepted off the wait list but it may take until early to mid May. I guess if she isn't accepted off the wait list we are going to make sure that we get her observation hours up around 400-500. @ muscstudent, what was your experience with your class mates as far as being accepted off the wait list? This might be a stretch but maybe you might know how many total were accepted off the wait list?
Guess we'll just keep our fingers crossed in the mean time.

I was also placed on the waitlist. It's frustrating that MUSC cannot tell us our place on the waitlist or even how many students are on it total. I get the feeling that many students though are placed on the waitlist

They offered 107 spots last year and 63 of those offered accepted. They had 64 spots open so that leaves me to wonder as to why the last spot didn't fill. I realize people apply to more than one PT school and may accept those over MUSC or other schools for that matter. It would be nice to know where you are at on the list so you can prepare a little better in advance. The email says they try to make notifications as quickly as possible but it could take until the first week of May and school starts in May. We are lucky to have a family house in Charleston but I couldn't imagine if you weren't in the same type of situation. Penguin keep us posted and we'll do the same. Good luck to you and we have our fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear about the wait list. Several of my classmates got in late April so it is definitely possible. They were able to find housing, etc so don't let that stress you out. I do not have any statistic about how many people are placed on the wait list vs. denied or what the chances are getting off the wait list. I wish I could be more helped! The one thing I can guarantee is that some people will get off the wait list. Don't give up hope!

I was just taken off the waitlist for this fall (after being on the waitlist for all of one weekend)! Hopefully this is encouraging to others, because apparently people are declining MUSC already so I think a lot of people will get on from the waitlist.

Hey PTschoolhopeful, do you mind me asking your GPA/GRE/experience info? I'm also wait listed at MUSC so I'd be helpful do be able to put a reference to about where I would stand down on the list based on your credentials. Thanks and congratulations!

My wife just got accepted to MUSC off of the wait list. Needless to say we are super excited. Goodluck to others that are wait listed. Hopefully you and my wife will be classmates.

Hey do you mind telling me your wife's gpa & gre? I am trying to determine my spot on the waitlist

Congratulations!! That is so exciting!

We'll keep our fingers crossed for you. My wife was on the wait list for about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. Nothing is worse than waiting for answer. Good luck!!

Anyone here anything back yet? I am still on the waiting list and this is the only place i didnt get outright denied so...

I'm still waiting to hear back too. Your not the only one 🙂

Did anyone ever hear back? Hopefully you did and it was good news.

Still have not heard back. Not telling you how far you are on the waiting list really puts the student out.

Is there anyone on here who is already in the MUSC DPT class of 2015? I want to go to MUSC (and am already in the class), but I'm trying to figure out how to afford it. What is everyone else doing?

Same here. I am in and I love the school but it is sooooooooooo much more expensive than my other option. I've been comparing costs and wondering if the difference is worth it. Other school is only 13k A YEAR! I know that loans are available to cover costs (direct and plus loans) but are we going to be able to now afford the repayment? I already have 40k from undergrad.

$29 K for just tuition and books on in state pricing is a little hard to swallow. I guess we are just going to take loans and deal with it later. What is your other option that is $13 K a year?

Does anyone know if there is a Facebook group yet (or other form of communication) for the class of '15?

Other option is University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. Its close to where I am now. Its not a bad program but the location can't even come close to Charleston.

No facebook page yet... everyone has connected so far through the housing "need roommate" website.

Oh sad, because I can't get on that website since I don't need housing. What does the class look like right now that you could tell from the housing website? Ages/genders/in-state or out-state/etc?

It seems to mostly be students right out of undergrad (21/22 yrs old), mostly women, and a good mix of in state/out of state.

I understand that school decisions are difficult, but those who are still deciding should consider that people are still on the waitlist and have been so for almost two months now. Please keep others in mind, however make the best decision for yourself. Not directed at you specifically, just those who have been hesitant to make a decision for some time.

Has anyone who has been wait listed heard anything lately? Though there is still a chance to get in it is hard to remain optimistic with classes starting in a month and a half.

I havent heard anything either besides being wait-listed. If I don't get accepted there this time, I'm going to be pretty hesitant to apply there again with the way they leave you like this.

Coming down to the wire. Did anyone else on the wait list get accepted? If so let me know, it would be nice to have a few acquaintances ahead of time. If you didn't get accepted at MUSC hopefully you got accepted elsewhere and best of wishes to you.

Anyone else hear back lately? I think its pretty much the ending point for me.

Someone just dropped out to attend another school so you may hear something next week! I know someone in the current 1st year class that got in the day before orientation, so don't give up! It looked to me that only 57 out of 63 students were registered by the system for classes (an automatic thing if you've been accepted and paid your deposit), so that must mean that they are still working on getting the last few spots filled.

Thank you so much for the response. I am praying so much that I get in.

Your post provided me with much excitement and anticipation for today, but still no word. Hopefully something will happen soon. I would just like a decision either way and to not be left hanging anymore!

Did they let you know yet? I think they send our letters on Fridays.
