I was offered a pretty good gig at a GI center. I'm about 2 years out of residency. But pay is 300k with office hours but they want someone long term.

How do others out there feel about doing only GI centers? My concern is long term not just in losing skill but can you even be a career GI guy long term 15-20+ years?

I think the question is more "do you want to" rather than "can you". A day of 15-20 scopes and I'm ready to say "no more GI ever". I have friends that do full time GI - I can't imagine doing that day after day forever.

Agreed. @ 300k someone is making $$$ off your back if u r doing 15-20 per day. Of course they want long term commitment @ that salary. Only way I would "consider" that offer is if they offered 500k no call with 10 wks...

20 endos x units (startup and time) x 40-50/unit = 4k+ per day x 280 days a year is.....???

🙄

Yeah, but $300k for mindless anesthesia, no nights, no call, no weekends ain't too shabby. Sign me up!

I would strongly suggest you look at my new thread OIG 12-06. The company model with GI centers and others making cash off of their "anesthesia business LLC" is going down the river.

Agreed. GI cases can be risky especially doing 10-15 scopes a day.

$300k? That's a low salary. Most solo anesthesiologist doing strictly GI can make over $500k easily. So someone is raping u 40% of your potential salary.

Even Sheridan only rapes u about 20% of your potential salary at most of their hospitals. This GI job sounds worse than Sheridan jobs and that's saying something.

Do they cover malpractice? Occurrence? How much vacations? Other benefits?

What do you mean by "going down the river"?
