I've studied engineering for 4 years but am now considering med school.
Learning medicine is like learning a language.
I'd love to learn it through out my life and still practice in my autumn years.
At the same time, I've done really well in my engineering and math classes, and I feel uncomfortable letting them go.

I know having parallel careers is very hard.
Still, has anyone been working as an engineer and doctor at the same time?
Thanks!

I'm working as an engineer and taking pre-med classes at night.

I couldn't imagine being a doctor and an engineer at the same time though. Engineering part time is possible and so is being a doctor, but I haven't heard of anyone doing it. Usually when people work part time it's to have more time with family, not to work other jobs.

My advice. Do what interests you.

I'm sure there are ways you could combine the two fields if that was something you were interested in. i.e. biomed. engineering research or something.

You didn't really give much in the way of reasons why you think you might like to do medicine. You say it's like learning a language and that you'd love to learn it throughout your life. You don't need to go to medical school to learn medical science. You should want to treat patients as well. I'd try shadowing people in both fields and see what area seems to fit you best.

i know a guy who's in a mdphd program. the phd is in engineering.
so.. i guess.. his future career might involve something of both.
