I've heard if you feel like you're doing bad on the DAT you can cancel the test. You basically don't submit it. Is that true? and if it is how?

Its not true. Once you start, theres no going back. Whether your finish the test or not, the scores will be recorded by ADA and sent to your respective schools if you requested them.

I think the policy you are talking about only applies to MCAT, but I am not sure. However, I am certain that it doesnt work that way for the DAT.

 I love how people speak with such absoluteness on these forums.

I’m almost 100% certain you can indeed choose not to submit your exam if you feel you aren't doing so hot. At the end of the exam it asks you if you'd like to submit your exam...if so, that’s it, no canceling. If not...your exam isn't scored and it is instead canceled.

I say almost 100% because its been over a year since I’ve taken the exam, and I never actually canceled mine. You can call the ADA to double check.

but...DON'T TAKE THE EXAM UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN YOU ARE READY!

best of luck 👍

are u NUTS? sorry for the meanness but where did u take ur exam for it to ask u "do u want to submit" that's so dumb! from what i remeber, once u finish the last question of your last section (QR).. the screen goes blank and then your score pops up right in front of you within seconds...

if everyone could cancel their score midway or refuse not to send it..then i sure would have taken it like 50 times just for practice and to see all the questions! dont' bother calling ADA they will just respond as if a deer were lookin in the headlights.

in other words, you can't cancel unless it's like life threatening like u vomit all over the screen..and i don't think that's even cutting it. or if your computer freezes or has a glitch. oh man i WISH i could cancel my scores midway... I almost had a panic attack during mine. U'll do fine..be confident and u won't need to cancel halfway thru ur exam. gooooddd luck.

I actually took the DAT just a little less than a month ago. Right before I was about the begin, the lady specifically told me that once started, theres no going back - unless there are faults on their part or if you are in critical condition or something. If I just leave midway during the exam, my scores will still be recorded and sent to schools.

This question was actually covered awhile back also, you can try searching the forum and check the responses if you would like.

To bruinpredent: its fine if you dont agree with me, we are entitiled to our opinions anyways. But a little less sarcasm still wouldnt hurt. 🙂

Either way, good luck to the OP!

Yeah you can't cancel the test after starting it. With that logic you could sign up three times and use the first 2 for practice!! Plus you would loose your sign up fees. You can postpone the exam I think up to either 48 or 24 hours before your scheduled time. If you've put in the time and studied hard you'll do fine!!!

It is still possible to cancel your DAT scores once you start the exam. I made sure of this a couple of times before I took my DAT. If any time during the exam, you are unsure about the scores, go to the test administrator and tell them you want to cancel the scores. There is no refund if you do this, and none of the scores will be sent out to the schools you have chosen. But just to be on the safe side, talk to the manager of the testing center before your exam so theres no doubt . I DO MEAN THE HEAD PERSON. Sometimes the secretaries get the information wrong.

I think the only test you can do that on is the LSAT and I know for a 100% fact that you can cause my brother did it. I think that the LSAT allows that because law schools look down on reatking the test, so much that no one really ever does reatke it. And if you do they AVERAGE the scores. sucks.

The amount of "my cousin said he couldn't," and "my sister said she could," in this thread is unrivaled. Just e-mail the ADA, I'm sure it's not up to the testing instructor whether or not you can cancel or not; the policy will be the same everywhere.

Just called ADA. They said you CANNOT void the test once you moved onto questions. If you just leave during the middle of the test, your score will still be recorded when the time runs out, and reported to respective schools. However, you can just not show up during that day and reschedule, but will cost you $$.

I thought that you could only reschedule 2 business days prior or you lose your money....

that "would you like to submit the exam" pops up because you clicked on "submit" before the time expires.

Yea, if you reschedule 2 days prior you dont have to pay more fees. But if you decide not to show up on the day of the exam then you will have to pay for the next one.
ok, i was just making sure we were on the same page.
