Is this type of a question (this is on a secondary app) mostly to address any extenuating circumstances that may have caused irregularities in your application, which you couldn't directly address on AADSAS? Like a reason why you had to withdraw all your classes one semester, etc. Or, does this serve some other purpose as well? I'm just curious what people who have filled out this question have answered it with. I know it's optional, but I'm hesitant to leave things blank if it could be made beneficial.

I think the rule of thumb is to never leave anything blank.
I'm filling them out right now too... scratching my head for SOMETHING to write about.
I always thought of 'extenuating circumstances' as a death in the family, you got cancer or something equally bad, financial problems, or some environmental disaster in your neighborhood. ( None of which I can say was a circumstance of mine) ... I'm starting to feel bad about myself for being blessed!? wtf (!!) BC Not all of us has these circumstances.

Sorry, had to vent a little...

All I can think of is : look over your application and your trends. Is there a dip in your grades? A time when you did NO EC or less than your usual? A time when you took less units (etc).
OR
if everything is consistant, then what were you missing out on to keep those consistencies?
I guess what that question might also be used for is to see what you may have sacrificed to get to where you are now..

i hope this helped 😳

hmm dunno if pointing out flaws or undermining yourself may be to your advantage... 😕

I'm a little hesitant about this as well. My wife and I had extenuating circumstances where she lost her job due to health problems, we had to rent out our home and move in with family, and now are losing our home because of other circumstances out of our control. My wife also has been diagnosed with (grown up with) PTSD and can be very demanding of my time, especially when raising our kids is concerned. While I've been able to shadow and be involved in some community service, maintaining the health of my family has limited my opportunities to participate. I've remained dedicated to my studies and my parental responsibilities throughout all this, maintaining a 3.94 GPA and getting a 22AA, which I see as a positive... but they may find something negative in all this, and I'm wondering if it's worth the risk. Decisions decisions.
