Can't get a real answer from my school about what they look for beyond grades about AOA, so just curious if any of yours expect student council, research, that type of stuff.

Thanks!

After making the initial cut based on academics, I think most schools will use your other endeavors (school-elected position, volunteer activities, contributions to the student body etc) in the final selection process. I think only junior AOA is solely based on academics.

If you're at the top of your class academically, then start doing other stuff that will get you some face recognition by the administration. There are tons of stuff to do in med school. Find what interests you the most.

My school's policy is that being in a certain top percentage will get you a nomination, and then they look at everything else (activities, etc) to select amongst that cut-off (I've been told by upperclassmen that they use this vague policy to also select their favorites who take time to kiss up to them) so it's basically exactly what MegaProjectile is saying
