Let's say that my COMLEX level 1 score is not that great, and I am doing the AOA match. Would it help to take the USMLE step 1 and do well? Or do AOA programs not really look at USMLE scores? If it depends on the school then what percentage of AOA programs would you guess? Thanks.

IIRC you can’t even send your step scores to AOA only programs so they wouldn’t even see it if you did well on them. You’d have to notify the program individually to submit them, which is what some of my friends did. Even then most programs were like “were not taking step scores until we get accreditation”

When you apply to residency there will be no AOA match. You will be applying to ACGME programs that were previously AOA and/or have osteopathic recognition.

Programs that consider DO's and take them every year are more likely to accept COMLEX-only. Most programs usually state on their website that they will take COMLEX in-leui of USMLE (that includes MD/ACGME programs). This is program/region/specialty dependent.
