Here is the letter I post on Dr. Wickless's blog at
http://blogs.do-online.org/aoapresident.php?itemid=29481#c

Please give your thoughts.

Dear Dr. Wickless,

I want to thank you for defending the profession in your press release.

Thank you.

I would like to know why AOA is supporting the HR3200. I was reading the FAQ provided by http://www.do-online.org

http://www.do-online.org/pdf/FAQ--HealthChoicesAct--H.R3200--072109.pdf

I thought it was a very well written FAQ. Until I run into the FAQ release by AMA.

http://www.ama-assn.org/ama1/pub/upload/mm/399/hsr-hr3200-faqs.pdf

I put the two versions side to side, the 2 versions are almost identical to a point of arguable plagiarism. Why are we repeating the talking points of AMA?

I understand that physicians in AMA are very upset about the AMA position. I would like to know who was involved in the AOA endorsement of the HR3200? Was this passed by the AOA BOT? the House of Delegates?

I am very concerned because of the two copies of the FAQs are virtually identical, are we becoming the puppet of the AMA? Is the decision to support HR decision even a decision of the DOs? or are we just doing what the AMA tell us?

Once again, thanks for standing up for us with the press release.

Respectfully

I saw this yesterday and laughed. The only thing that make it more comical is if they slapped "osteopathic" on the first line of every paragraph and then claimed it was entirely different from the AMA. Looks copied to me. Maybe the AOA and AMA worked on this together, and some marketing genius decided it was a good idea to release the same position paper for both orgs.
