I took AP Biology in high school and got credit for our 1st semester of intro bio... BUT I was looking at Tuft's app last night and they ask you to list lab for each semester of into bio. I didn't get separate credit for the lab component because at my school the bio labs are just a part of your lecture grade (aka 0 credit). Did anyone have trouble with AP Bio credit not being sufficient for one of the GenBio requirements?

(I know,I know, I should call the schools... but I want to have an idea of what they're going to say!)

I have the option to take upper-level Cell Bio next spring but I'd rather take a different class if I don't need that one to satisfy the genbio requirement....

I had AP Bio credit too, but did not apply to Tufts so I have no clue how their app is compared to VMCAS. However, with VMCAS it just told me to list all AP courses that appeared in my college transcript as if I took them the first semester of my freshman year. If you don't want to call the school to ask, I say take the cell bio to CYA, plus it may be interesting. That is unless of course it interferes with other plans.

I'm also applying to Tufts and did AP bio. I think you're safe with the lab/lecture thing. I emailed the admin office about orgo (only took 1 semester of lab) and she said it met their requirements. So I think as long as you have one upper level bio with a laboratory component, you should be all set!

It should be fine. Some undergrad schools have a 3 credit lecture and separate 1 credit lab and others have a combined 4 credit lecture and lab so it's not mandatory to have a separately listed lab. You just need a lab component to the class, which you had.

I got into Tufts using AP Bio as my 2 semesters for intro bio. It should be fine. Even at my college there was no separate lab course for intro bio- it was all just part of one massive course.

I didn't take AP bio, but at my school, the freshman biology classes do not have labs associated with them at all. I had to take upper level biology labs for my degree and that was fine with them for the requirement. So if it comes down to it, you could just take a different bio lab at your university.
