do AP courses (bio, chem, phys) from high school help in anyway? i have read that med schools dont accept AP credits. how different are the sections on the MCAT comparing with the AP sciences?

AP credits are more for college. They will help you place out of some science classes. Medical schools do not 'accept' AP credits per se; some are more interested in seeing how you do in a college-evvironment class than if you learned the material in high school.

Example: Most medical school require a year of biology. You take the AP, get out of a semester of intro biology. While some medical schools will look at that and consider it a year of biology, to be safe, you should take at least one additional semester of some upper level biology to make sure that you are covered for the med school's requirement. This formula goes for any of the areas (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, and maybe Math) where med schools tend to specify their requirements.

To get a better idea of what the pre-reqs are, check out schools' web sites, or flip through one of those guides to medical schools at the library or book store. Every school is different, so the best strategy this early on is to cover all your bases so that any school that has a problem will be an exception, not the rule.

Well...for mcat you don't need advanced classes at all. Most of the stuff you learned in your AP classes will help you on the mcat. BUT they will definitely help you in your college science classes.
If you did really good on those AP classes, you should have no problem in getting As in the pre-med classes provided that you don't slack off.

What the heck are you talking about? 🙄

desi, I am assuming you are in high school, because if you are in college, either you took them or you didn't, so it doesn't matter. If you are asking whether you should take AP classes, the answer is YES. Colleges look to see whether you've challenged yourself. Also, if you can get out of taking a weed-out course with 100 people in your lecture, go for it--that way you can spend your tuition money taking something cool, like biochem or anatomy. If you AP out of a requirement and take 2 upper-level lab courses in its place, you won't have any problems with med schools.
