Hi, I don't think I worded it decently enough in the other thread

Can you use AP credit for the pre-med english requirement?

If not:

Can you use Dual-credit English* for the pre-med requirement? (* dual credit is a program where one takes an English course at a local community college that gives both high school credit and college hours)

Or should I just plan on taking a year of English at the university?

Please answer, thanks. Trying to decide next year's schedule. I'm a senior in high school next year.

You would have to check with the schools your interested in, some undergraduates take AP credit and some of them don't, just check with the enrollment and registration or get in contact with a counselor.

I know the school I want to go to would accept AP credit for English, but my question is, would medical schools accept that I used AP credit for the pre-med requirement of the 1 year of English?

Well since the university is accepting the credit as equivalent to you taking the course there why wouldn't med schools also accept it? I've taken AP US history, AP Gov't and AP Psych and all have been accepted i don't see why not med-schools wouldn't accept it either. But hopefully a med student might shed some light on this for you

Some medical schools explicitly do not accept AP credit for pre-reqs, even if your institution did accept them for credit. Since English is a pre-req at most schools, this would cause a problem. This is a relatively rare occurrence, but you would need to ask the specific schools you're interested in to find out what their policy is.

Should I just go for AP English IV next year to complement my completed English III AP, and just go with that instead of going for dual-credit?

What do you think the % is of med schools that would get angry at using AP credit for English? Would I have to take English my senior year of college if I find out that the med schools that I got accepted into frown upon my use of AP credit? How late does one usually receive their acceptance letters?

Just a safe way to do in general is:

1) If you are fulfilling any non-science requirement for pre-med program with AP course, consider taking one additional course in that discipline to show that you are capable of doing the work. For English, this means that you should take one upper level English course regardless of how many English classes you receive credit for to indicate your capability.

2) For science courses, it is strongly discouraged to fulfill the general education requirements with AP courses (at least that's how it is for my school). And if this happens, you MUST take upper level courses to demonstrate your ability.

In short sentence, unless it's for History or some other disciplines that do not really matter for medical school, just take at undergrad.
