On many med schools websites it says "AP credit must appear on your transcript."

How do the medical schools that take AP credit look at you. My school waived me from Calculus 1. I received no credit for it and it's not on my transcript. I ended up only have to take 2 more quarters of math which were Calculus 2 and Stats.

My school gave me 4 credits/units for passing AP Calculus BCt. On my transcript it does show that I took the AP Calc BC test and received 4 units for it. However, my transcript does not say I was waived from Calculus 1 and it does not say "Calculus 1: 4 units from AP"

I really don't want to retake Calculus 1 at a CC or JC, but I may put on my app that I'll be taking Calc 1 at a CC or JC if this situation can mess up my app.

Can anyone give me some insight? Sorry for posting again, I just haven't been given a good response on this topic. Thanks.

What shows up on my transcript. It will say "AP Calculus: 4 units"

That's it. I think at some schools they might show the specific course name you got credit for. For example "Math 101: 4 units from AP" My transcript does not do this. All it say is "AP Calculus: 4 units" My school is on a quarter system too.

I fail to see your issue. My transcript lists all AP credit as "Transfer Credit, x units, Princeton, NJ", not even the individual classes I got credit for. I list the specific course they gave credit for because I got a sheet that says what my credit was applied to. But since yours says Calculus, I think it's rather obvious what the credit went towards, even if the specific class isn't listed.

Relax. Contrary to your first post, your AP class does appear on your transcript...you just told us it does. Most schools just list the AP course and the number of credits, exactly as yours does. Since you didn't actually take Math 101 or whatever, that course does not get listed, but rather the "course" (here, the AP course) that you took to fulfill your math requirement. You don't get an actual letter grade assigned...and therefore it doesn't actually calculate into your GPA.

What you should be considering instead is whether the schools you are applying to will accept an AP credit for a prereq course (most do not). In that case you will need to take a different course, since you can't take the class you've already received credit for via the AP course. Look at the websites and/or MSAR for the schools you are considering to determine whether your AP credit would be accepted.

I wouldn't go as far as saying most do not. There are a small handful of schools that don't accept AP credit for math and English. There are a larger handful of schools that won't accept it for Chemistry or Physics. There are an even larger number of schools that won't accept it for Biology. The vast majority of any of these schools will accept AP credit so long as you've taken additional courses in the field (which he has--Calc II and Statistics). There are only a few schools that will absolutely not accept AP credit and won't consider additional courses as fulfillment of the prereqs.

I think the AP credit shown on my official transcript may be just a lump sum instead of showing individual subject tests and the credit received from the school. However on my unofficial transcript it shows the units I received for each subject test such as AP Calc, Econ etc. So schools that accept AP credit how do they look at it? How would they know if I received individual units for AP Calc? It may not say this on my transcript, but I guess it shows up on my AMCAS?

Being required to take a second class despite having AP credit is the same thing as the AP credit not actually counting for the prereq. All that means is you can't take the class that most people take for the prereq because your school already gave you equivalent credit, and that to fullfill the bio/math/whatever requirement for medical schools you still need to take an additional course.

Getting AP credit to legitimately fullfill a prereq would mean NOT having to take any additional coursework in that subject to be eligible for medical school. Since you've said the vast majority of schools do not do this, you're proving my original point.

It depends on how much additional coursework they require. One of my schools was perfectly fine with you only taking one semester of additional coursework, or labs in the field. Without the AP credit, that wouldn't be enough to cover the prereqs (yes, it's a different course than you'd take without the credits, but it's still less at college than other premeds). It also depends on the type of AP credit you got. Most schools will have absolutely no problem taking math AP credits. It's the biology that's the biggest problem, followed by Chemistry and Physics.
