Hello.
I'm a junior at the University of Michigan trying to decide where to apply for next cycle.
AP credits are turning out to be quite the determining factor. I've received credit for AP Chem and both AP Lit and Lang. The dental school at Michigan fortunately accepts all AP credits and (I called/emailed to make sure) will even take both Lit (3 credits) and Lang (3 credits) as my 6 credits of English. I haven't called any other schools, but it'd probably be a good idea to get this sorted out soon.
For my other stats, I have around a 3.6 GPA, 3.5 sGPA and a 25 on my DAT. I'm doing well in my classes, and I'm shadowing/volunteering 4 hours a week and will most likely rack up 100 hours before June.
From what I've been reading, tuition seems to be the biggest factor, which coupled with the AP credit policy, makes Michigan the clear-cut #1 school for me. As far as other factors, I can only think of UoP's 3 year program (as well as the weather/location - I'm an avid tennis player) and the prestige of the couple Ivies out there.
Personally, however, I have no idea what the ACTUAL experience is like at any dental school in terms of stress levels, education value, opportunities after graduation etc.
So the ultimate question is...for the tuition and the fact that I don't have to take any extra pre-reqs due to APs, are there any other schools out there that I should consider applying to just purely because the experience is one in a lifetime?
