Hello guys,
So far this site looks promising. I am currently in AP Psychology at my high school and over winter break we were given the project to interview a psychiatrist. At the beginning of beak I called 6 local psyciatrists hoping they would answer a few questions for me but none of them responded.

So... I was wondering if someone on here would be willing to let me ask them a few questions via email about their career. If so could you please respond in this thread?

Nope, this is the correct forum.

I'm not aware of any psychiatrists who post outside of the psych forum, but Therapist4Chnge is a psychologist and will probably be by shortly. It would be wise, OP, to post your questions so that anyone browsing the thread can respond.

I thought he would have better luck posting in the psychology forum instead of the high school forum since he would find more professionals there instead of high school students. I know more than just hs students browse here, but whatever.

Thanks for the tips, I will go ahead and ask in the Psych forum also. Also, if you are in another field of psychology, that is not specifically psychiatry, please feel free to answer the question as any field will work.

Here are the questions (the first five were mandatory, general, questions):

1. What are the benefits of this line of work? (ex. psychiatry)
2. What are some of the draw backs for this line of work?
3. What are the career prospects for this field of psychology?
4. What attracted you to this field in psychology?
5. What are some of the standards of behavior and/or ethical considerations in this field?

6. What colleges/universities did you attend?
7. What internships have you taken a part in?
8. What are your specialties in psychiatry? (Or specialties specific to another field of psych)
9. How many hours a day to you spend with patients? (This won't pertain to all fields of psych)
10. What physical harm, if any, are you subjected to in this line of work?
11. What specific perks do you receive in this field? (More specific that question 1)
12. Are you challenged on a day to day basis?
13. How often to take classes to stay sharp on your field?
14. What was your doctorate paper about? (Very brief description, please 😉)
15. Is there anything else you think I should know about this line of work and what to look out for?

Also, if you have ANY other questions or answers you would like to add please feel free. I'm sure I can't cover everything in 15 questions.
