So now that I have been accepted to medical school, I am getting really lazy and it's affecting my classes.

I just got a C on one of my bio midterms so now I'm a bit nervous. I just don't have motivation to study anymore and want to start med school already. Is it cool to just get C's in the rest of my Senior classes and still not have my acceptances withdrawn?

Now I know a reason why one should hold on to the multiple acceptances as long as possible.

Take a year off from the school while you are going to it? Who said that one can't have the cake and eat it too!

my grades dropped senior year too. i didn't get all C's, but i did get a C- and didn't lose an acceptance. I actually got into a school after i told them about the C-. its somewhat risky, but i wouldn't worry about it too much.

Nice. Now I can relax and just breeze through my classes.🙂

well im in your same boat.....accepted....wanting to slack....

Im telling myself that a 3.0 is OK, but im going to keep working for A's.....I think i would be mighty scared if i made 2 C's, even though it would be in Pchem and Anylitical chem.

Im going to new orleans to look for apartments and to cruise the school...im gonna talk to the admissions dean there and find out whats whats.....

I hear you.....my marks are falling pretty fast...I'm hoping that mid to high B's will be good enough...good luck

Jeff

If you are worried about your senior grades after already being accepted, you might as well label your self as a gunner now. Don't be that guy.....

Well, I disagree somewhat.... I've already been accepted to three schools, but none of them are my top choices - my top 4 choice schools won't let me know their decision until March. So, although I could technically say "screw it" and get by with C's, i'm busting my butt to get a 4.0 this semester so that I can send those schools good updates about my transcript.

I would say that if you're in at the school you want to go to, don't stress - don't mess up too badly, and you'll be fine. But if you're waitlisted or won't find out about the decision until March or later, then it doesn't make sense not to do your best.

Yeah, i think thats a good attitude...I wish i could do that but..

Anyway...i think alot of C's would certianly get your acceptance pulled.

Is it OK if an applicant gets maybe one or two C's in senior year, and then pulls off A's for all other classes? I'm trying hard to enjoy my senior year, but for this particular quarter, with interviews and having to miss so many classes, I think my grades are greatly suffering right now. At this stage, I think interviews are a lot more important than grades, but I know it'd be unwise to fail classes. For me, apathy is not an issue, but I'm not living up to the performance as I had done for the last 3 years. These classes are among the hardest I've taken, and they are required for my major. If you get a C, do you really have to explain to the ADCOMS why, and would the med school interview excuse or difficulty of the class suffice? Right now, I'm trying my hardest to strive for A's in the classes, but I think I'm sort of having doubts of being able to pull just a B- or better. I shouldn't be thinking like that, and I know this quarter is particularly rough, that it's only a couple more weeks before finals, and that I will have very relaxing winter and spring quarters to conclude my undergrad experience. I just had a couple of pep talks with my family and friends about this. Just had to vent a little bit. All I can say now is for all of us here to try our hardest, and it'll be over sooner or later.

i also got a C and C minus. they don't care. in fact, i didn't even send my final transcript until the latest due date (a few weeks, maybe a month before school started.) hope that eases some minds! i'm not proud of it, but hey- senioritis/interviewing gets the best of us.

amen to apathy. but guys... here's the secret to apathy: it means you DO NOT CARE. if you're really stressing about grades, man up and do all your work. i'm not worried. i'm not working all that hard. luckily, i like my classes, so i get some stuff done.

what i really think we all need to do is spend a percentage of the worry that we all have trained ourselves to have with schoolwork on thinking about how this year is our last. many of our (less close) friends we may not see again till some reunion night. go out. drink. flirt/hookup with the girl you've had a crush on since the second month of senior year.

you will not regret a few Bs or even, gasp, a few Cs. you will regret being so tight assed about grades now that, objectively, they matter little.

ps- no failing kids. 🙂

just wondering if anyone has ever heard of someone getting an acceptance revoked?

I hope this doesn't get anyone nervous, but in one of my acceptance letters (UVA) I was told that any C's senior year would require a written letter explaining the grades. The acceptance letter went on to say that any D's or F's would result in a re-evaluation of my application. While this is the case for UVA, no other schools that I've received acceptances from said anything approaching this.

pika7,

did you get a JHU acceptance letter? does it say anything about "contingent upon..."?

thanks!

My acceptance letters say only that I must "complete my accademic obligations". I think one could reasonably conclude from this that passing all your classes and getting your degree would be sufficient.

I would be SHOCKED if any school pulled an acceptance even for an applicant with all C's final semester (or year). Having an acceptance pulled is a big deal and not to be undertaken lightly. I think that in order for it to happen, there would have to be some pretty objective criteria set forth.

Glad to see my thread is being bumped up. Well, I just finished my finals and will probably get straight Bs.

looks like a pass, an A, a B and a C for me. Damn is Pchem hard. I had like the highest grade ever in Ochem with the toughest teacher. Now in pchem i get my ass handed to me by chemical engineers who have had the dubious luxury of taking Calc 3 and thermodynamics already. Anyway, i called Pisano at Tulane last month and he said not to sweat it. Also the secratary there said they havnt rescined any acceptances since she started there 8 years ago. Yet im still in a funk over the grade....a C is a C is a C, and i dont like making them in classes that I try to understand. Silly i know....but damn I dont like making bad grades whether they matter or not.

what school was that?

medhopeful08,
You are right, the Hopkins acceptance letter reads "contigent upon the satisfactory completion of all admission requirements prior to that date." I guess what I meant by my previous post is that UVA was the only school that specifically defined "satisfactory completion." as greater than a B-. Hope that helps.

at UIC you have to send a letter if you get a C your senior year.
i got a C, i sent a letter, no one really seemed to give a crap.
(i explained that it was due to missing a lot of school for interviews and traveling for research...which was sort of it....more likely acute senioritis, but whatever).

Why would you want to do less than your best? You're selling yourself short. All your hard work and good grades are just for med school? Why throw away a great GPA just because you "feel like" slacking? You'll regret not doing your best down the road. Just think if you take that same attitude in the fourth year of med school....someone could die. I'm not saying over study, or stress yourself to the point of a breakdown, but since you're accepted, why not focus on the learning process for learning's sake?? Learn the material for yourself, not for medical school admission. If you focus on learning for the sake of knowing, decent grades will follow without lots of stress. Of course some people are not intrinsically motivated, so this may prove difficult....

you want apathy...try graduating in a week....

any other december grads?😀 😀 😀

Me!!! I graduate this December!

My UCI acceptance said I could not get less than a C in any class. Or else what? I hope not to find out. I think I got a C- and I'm scared to death when grades come back. My reasons:
missing class for interviews, 20 units of upper-div labs and classes, apathy, and major senioritis. Now I'm scared. 🙁

Do well for pride and the sake of learning!

yeah, i had a major senioritis for a while, but once i was put on "hold" at ucsf, I knew with bad grades I'd put my chances at getting an interview at risk, so it kept me going. Similarly, you might want to think that you'd have a better shot at your "dream" school if you work hard and do well the rest of the year.

Anyway, no one knows how to get to uc davis from the sacramento aiport??

"contingent upon" ... can also mean that you need to complete all the premed requirements?

Yeah, I'm a December grad...hoping to get a 3.0 this last semester. I'm guessing that'll be fine for medical schools. I agree, I don't think a person can understand senioritis until they actually HAVE it. Congrats one and all. If you're ever in CHicago perhaps I'll see ya out at the bars!.

Oh my god. Look who gets a cookie for being so good.🙄

There's more to life than grades. Grades are, after all, a means to an end, not the essence of life. I've found that they're not even all that indicative of knowledge gained, so you can stuff that whole "learning for learning's sake" crap.

Also, this isn't fourth year med school. No one is going to die if you get a B. Or a C. Or a D.

Some premeds are such drama queens.

There's one class, Biochem lab, that I hate with a passion. The professor, the TA, the course director have insulted me - I could go on and on about that. My friend told me to tape-record my conversations with them but I didn't. They don't like premeds or people who are applying to medical school. Unfortunately, I had an interview in the beginning of the semester in which I had to miss a class -they give pop quizzes in class- and so I had to miss the pop quiz. So they know I was applying. And it's just been downhill from there. I switched my concentration in my major because of this class. If anything, this class has also made me want to go to law school. I have experienced firsthand where people in positions of authority try to undermine others and make demeaning remarks.

Wasn't trying to be a drama queen. And, by the way grades are, to a certain extent, indicative of knowledge. If you know and understand the material, your grade WILL indiciate that if you do the work. Why bust your ass for 3.5 years and throw it all away in the final half of the year? By the way, I do not want a cookie, but thanks for the offer.
