Is there anyway to forgo taking the exam in July and just take it for the first time in October?

You should, at the very least, be emailing your school/advisors or walking into the office and talking to them directly.

As Weirdy said, check with the school and read your student handbook. Most programs will put students on probation for not taking the July exam unless there is a good reason and the Dean is fine with it.

Just take it. Things won’t play well if you skip this and fail in October

It’s time to triage your study plan. Unless you have experienced a majorly disruptive event* in your personal life, you need to sit for this exam.

Take a look at the AACPM curriculum guide, starting with lower anatomy. Review the topics with 3’s and 4’s. Physio and path go hand-in-hand, so study those together. Now you need to know how to treat the path, so add the 3’s and 4’s from pharm to your physio and path notes. For micro, review bacteriology, mycology and virology at the very least. You can chunk that information with your notes on antimicrobial drugs from the pharm section.

The exam is in 17 days. The time you spend studying should be focused, so remember that you can only study effectively for a few hours at a time. Take a break at least every 3 hours, and give yourself at least 1 day off each week. Hydrate. Eat food. 8 hours of sleep each night is more valuable than a few extra hours studying.

General + Lower are 38% of the exam.
Physio + Path + Pharm are 36% of the exam.
38% + 36% = 74%

If you can answer most of the questions correctly, you can pass this exam.

let this serve as a warning to everyone who puts off their boards part i studying lol. This is a test you can't cram for like part ii or part iii.

Great advice.

True that. Can't really cram 2 years worth of material, but if people put in the hard work and long hours to learn the material correctly it will reflect on their results.

I think so, I've seen it done before.

However, the downside is that you only get 1 chance at boards before having major issues, whereas taking it in July gives you the October as a backup date.

Exactly this.

Potentially another year lost of income for an already low income field is a no go.
