Apnea and cardiac response

In fetus or neonate, apnea is usually accompanied by bradycardia. The mechanism is thought to be due to increase vagal response due to the immaturity of neonate sympathetic system. So, can anyone clarify that adult's apnea is accompanied by tachycardia or bradycardia?
