Appearance for Interviews- Stubble+ type of suit?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
1st one = House of slytherin

2nd one = Vegas

3rd one = Professional/Reservoir Dogesque, so good for interview

hahaha. I guess I'm going for #3. I think it still looks sleek compared to the politician look.

Ya well, most politicians aren't too easy on the eyes, but like someone else said if the suit is tailored to fit well then it will look sleek. There's more modern suit styles now that aren't so baggy and ugly like the ones you're probably thinking of when I say politician. I meant more like the colors.

Eh I'm not to big a fan of the black suit, white shirt and black tie combo unless you plan on fighting aliens on the way to your interview...

This is my all time favorite combo:

lol, ya that's why I said reservoir dogesque.

Your choice with the maroon tie reminds me of a young Karl Rove maybe.

I'd go for one of these:

Young Karl Rove? Is that supposed to be an epic insult....🙁 😀

The suits in that picture are awesome but the pinstripes/colors(not even to mention the pocket square folds) are too much for an interview imho(at least for me).

yea, way too flashy, but the colors are good. maybe not the one in front but the one in back. These suits say to me, CEO of Bank of America.

I was just kidding about karl rove. I feel like the republicans always wear those red ties.

Yeah I really like the one in the back - would be even better if interviews were in the summer.

BTW this is what the CEO of Bank of America wears:

Hmm...nah.

they look like good friends of Karl Rove

I haven't clean shaven in about 2 years and almost always keep my beard at about 4 mm. It seemed to be fine when I interviewed and I'm starting med school this year...All in all, no one pays attention to little things like that as long as you look presentable.

How about how they dress in white collar tv?

I was thinking of they grey one

I like grey suits so you won't find any objections here. Though I wouldn't probably wear a black tie myself but thats just personal preference.

You should wear whatever you want - in the end unless it is ridiculous I doubt anyone will care. Even if you wear your dark shirt 😛 or alien fighting uniform. 😀

For the record I too almost always have stubble, but I clean shaved for my medical school interviews. I second a black suit. Look conservative-- very conservative. Looking sharp won't hurt, but you are trying to impress your interviewer with your judgement rather than your sex appeal.

Oh and I literally look like I'm 12 when I clean shave, but that didn't hinder me from getting in. Best of luck!

It seems people DO NOT support a black suit. I will never understand the world of conservative attire haha.

I go for those kind of looks whenever I wear a suit haha. Unbuttoned shirt/dark colors (though all the events I wear a suit to are more party/event based. Not professional settings). I think I'm even wearing that style in my first picture. I thought I would just modify it by putting a dark tie on as well. I guess not :/

So is a grey suit+ black shirt not a good idea. I thought I read somewhere that that was a unique way but still professional?

What are you guys going to wear, or what DID you wear?

Thanks for the help guys!

I always wore this or some small variation to all of my interviews (always wore my lucky tie though 😛).

P.S. OP, you ARE one cheeky bloke! Haha.

Suit up like Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother, but no ducky tie.

No stubble. None. Zero. This is not a dance club. You are interviewing as a potential medical professional. Your conservative MD interviewers will not think you look like Brad Pitt. They will think you look like a lazy piece of crap who doesn't know how to shave.
Listen to this guy.

I had light - medium stubble at all of my interviews and I did fine; I had several old WASP interviewers (even one at my pre-med committee interview who commented on nail length!) and my facial hair/ appearance in general wasn't an issue. If a lack of stubble affects you on a subconscious level I'd just keep it, your confidence and ability to maintain a natural conversation are much more important than that 1:10,000 chance that you'll get a stubble nazi as your interviewer.
Not this one.

This is what you should be shooting for with your suit.

I love love love men with stubble ( if they can pull it off) but I do have to agree, some might not take it positively :/

I would never post pics of me on SDN. lol

Meh I figured people always going to hate! But I wanted specific advice :/

Do you guys really think stubble looks hoboish at all times? It seems like its the trend in all tv shows/movies/red carpet crap etc.

I don't think it looks lazy, rather stylish and rugged.

I'll echo everyone here - shave that face!

Also, whatever you decided to wear, wear it appropriately!! There were so many violations of man dress code on the interview trail this last year that I lost count. So many people in sloppy tie knots and way-to-big suits. Honestly, it made them look like they were 8 years old playing in daddy's closet. The two most notable infractions took place at top 15 schools. 😉

Stubble is a fine style for many circumstances, such as the red carpet, the nightclub, hiking the Appalachian trail, lazy long weekends, working as a computer programmer, and many more. It is not, however, an appropriate look for professionals. For your interview, you should strive to look like a professional. No stubble.
