PhD/PsyD APPIC Internship Interview Invitation Thread (2019)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone checked out Dogs on Netflix? I noticed it for the first time yesterday. It seems like a relevant question to ask this thread.

I haven’t watched it yet but my teen son said of it “I thought it was going to be cute and entertaining, not make me cry.“

Is it bad/overreacting to apply to more sites with later application deadlines because i havent heard from my other sites yet? Pay day was poorly timed, i have money to pay for more apps....

Only do it if you’d be happy to do internship there.

Just curious, anyone heard anything from any of the other sites in this consortium? I applied, but not to any of these sites and still no word either way...

Someone else in my program is interviewing for the Boystown site on 1/4 too and got the email on 11/30, but that's the only other site from NICPP that I've heard about.

Anyone out there with peds neuro Nicklaus interview, I got one and replied with preferred interview date but have not heard back yet. Any of ya'll here back about date confirmation?

Same boat. I replied Friday, but I haven’t heard back.

Okay, fashionistas: What color shoes should a female wear with a navy suit?
That said about black, i also think a brown/burgundy looks great. Or a tan/nude can be appropriate depending on the shoe style. OR If youre interviewing where i am, just try a bright pop of red. Or pink or yellow. Some unprofressional color

Did you apply to SIUH, which is also a part of Northwell Health?

Yep sure did! You? Do you know if they really wait until 12/31 to notify applicants of status like they say? I couldn’t find any info on them in previous year’s threads...

The tentative interview date is set at 01/04 - not that they need to adhere to this, but I’d hope that they would notify applicants by at least mid-December if they want to interview them at that time.

I am! I’ve heard from all my friends either on internship or who have graduated that there were people in dresses at all their interviews

Good to know! Everyone is stressing out over buying suits. I’d rather wear what I have that looks good, is professional but most importantly is comfortable!

I like the option of wearing a dress because I’m already worried about my blazer and pants getting wrinkled (I don’t iron or even own one). Could someone post pics of what would be considered appropriate dresses to wear?

I would def invest in a small clothes steamer to make sure that your interview clothes, be it a dress or suit, don’t get wrinkled! I bought this little guy last year and it was a lifesaver. It took up very little space (and this is coming from a chronic over-packer who had to pack a carry on for a 13-day stretch at one point), was super easy to use, and got the job done. I had a couple of friends who found/bought other models on Amazon, but either way, if possible I’d make this a must-buy for your interview travels 🙂

Travel Smart Garment Steamer

As for what style of dress, I saw a handful of women last year in sheath/suit dresses that were paired with blazers. Ann Taylor sells this style of dress, so maybe check the website to get some visual inspo?

This can work. I've always been fine with using the shower steamer method. Just crank the hotel shower up to full heat and let it steam up with your things hanging up in the bathroom. Additionally, there are ways to pack suits, especially suit jackets, that will minimize wrinkles/creases quite a bit. Just search "how to pack a suit for travel" on youtube and you'll find dozens. All in all, very doable. I think my longest travel stretch was about 10 days at one point. Made it with 2 suits and 3 dress shirts just fine.

Travel Smart Garment Steamer?

Do you use the steamer on dry clean only clothes?

Plus Ann Taylor has some great sales going on right now!

I did! I used it on my trousers and blazer (which were dry clean only), as well as on my blouses I wore under my blazer and had no issues whatsoever. I actually got rid of the iron I (rarely) used when I moved for internship and still use my little steamer all the time so I def feel like I've gotten my money's worth (all $25 😉). Plus, I am a nerd and found it weirdly relaxing to steam my suit the night before an interview, soooooo there's that too haha

I agree!! The act of steam ironing before every interview put me in a zen 'time to do this" place. Please don't just let the shower run, y'all, it's SUCH a waste of water. The steamer that Slaney suggested worked well for us last year so go ahead and trust her.

I just noticed my #wandsite signature from last Feb!! We had a good time on our thread <3

Most hotels have irons. For Airbnb, you can check in with your host to see if they have one available/would leave one for you - most will. I similarly find ironing pretty relaxing, but I also do it multiple times a week so maybe it is because it is relatively procedural while producing very noticeable results (kind of like painting).

In my experience, steamers are pretty hit or miss. I've seen some that work great and others that are horrible.

That's a good point. I hate ironing and have burned things in the past. You can go either way - I am a steamer for sure.

Yeah I still haven’t heard anything from them either and their interview notification date has now passed. Not sure what to do.
I'm assuming a rejection will roll in at some point - I'm sure that its a lot of work for them to notify everyone and maybe its just taking longer than they thought. But it would be nice to have a definitive answer - hopefully soon!

I'm going as well but they also didn't get back yet with a confirmation.
